I was invited out to a ranch nearby yesterday to help clear up some farm yard pests and decided to
take the 350. I did not take a camera along (sorry) I didn't want to create the wrong impression with
the manager (not on my first of hopefully many visits) Anyhow, there were a number of doves... over
100 of them feeding freely on all the split cattle / chicken feed and the sparrow infestation is almost
of biblical proportions. I have never seen so many sparrows and starlings in one place at the same time.

Anyhow, the farm manager hung around with us to show us around and to explain where not to shoot
etc. and I guess to see us shoot a few birds and / or rats (the rats run around in broad daylight amongst
the birds... weird)
The first thing I decided to shoot was a dove, I was surprised (I think shocked would be a better word) at
how hard the 350 hits. None of the birds were further than 20 to 25 yards away and the 350 makes the
pellet cross that distance very quickly. The sound of the shot and the puff of feathers happens almost
at rim fire speeds. It lifted the dove up off the branch it was sat on about a foot, even the farm manager
was surprised, he let out a "holy Crxx" and a "that's an air rifle?" he then kinda tagged around with me
and after a while I realized that he wanted to try out the 350.. I let him shoot it and after he missed twice
he proceeded to take one dove and two sparrows with his next three shots.
Although he then left, when I went looking for him to say goodbye before we left 2 hours later, I found
him bragging to some other people about how well he'd shot the "pellet gun"
I think I may have gotten him hooked??? sure looked that way to me ;)
My conclusion is that the CFX is better suited for shooting sparrows. The 350 is more a dove and larger
quarry shooter for sure.

Thats a great story.  Sounds like you've found airgun pest shooting heaven :)

I've also  had a couple of people amazed when they see what modern air rifles can do.  I guess most people just have that "Red Ryder" bb gun thing stuck in their heads when they think about air rifles.  

Anyway, great story,,,, looking forward to your future posts and pics from that farm.

Great opportunity Roald.. Very sweet... but you may have just been to nice with that manager in letting him shoot the air gun..:) Now he will go out and buy one himself and do the cleanup by himself now..... hehe

Sounds like you better stock up on some pellets.. hehe

Ya Jeff...... I see that look all the time when people want to know what that is I am shooting.. hehe.. little do they know...:) When you tell them they generally say... "Oh" and on to another subject.. Can you imagine if there was a way to broadcast a demenostration of air gun use and capabilities to the world how many more members we would have.... lol

I agree with you Gene,    I think a lot of shooters and hunters would embrace the air gun sport once they really saw how challenging and how much fun it is.  For me bowhunting was always my absolute biggest hunting passion.   During the 3 month bow season here I pretty much got out and hunted every single day, and if I did miss a day I was all bummed out.  However once I got hooked on air gun hunting, which took about 2 seconds,,, the bowhunting got kicked down to 2nd place.  Matter of fact I only bow hunted a couple of times this past season,,, I was to busy out small game huntin with my "BB" guns.  :)

I really think most shooters would get hooked,, like we did,,, if they only knew what they were missing.

Good deal guy, most farmer's will give you the run of the place to clean up pest. I'm surrounded by farm's out here, it's a gold mine. Again nice story and keep em coming. As for air rifle hunting,tell em to spend a day out with me hehe. ;) Ed

Looks to me as you found Air Gun Heaven !

You didn't say if you shot any rats ?

And a great idea Gene ! Contact the major airgun companies with this idea, tell them of the untapped market that the have. The thought of MONEY allways gets UPPERmanagements attention !

And Roald, I don't know how there gonna keep you OFF that Farm from now on . HAHAHA

Bill, I did bag two rats. I tagged another but after spinning around a few times, it ran in behind some
metal roofing sheets and disappeared. After a few shots were fired they lay low (smart critters)
They are the healthiest rats I have ever seen. Thick shiny coats and fat. I guess when there is a high
quality food source like that it's not surprising.
A guy I met is the one with the "connection" to the farm. it was him who took me there. I guess
how soon we go back will be up to him.
There are quite a few farms like that around though, I wonder if I  could pluck the courage to approach
one of them and ask If I could de-varminize it for him?
What would be a good "pitch" / how would you guys approach the subject?

Funny Jeff, because I bought my pellet rifle to give me some practice waiting for deer season, but now I really enjoy shooting it.  It is challenging.  Still am basically a deer hunter, but, lol, I take my RWS with me for the middle of the day when no deer are moving.  The only problem I find with an air gun is not enough time to shoot it on a regular basis.  Sigh.
