« on: December 13, 2009, 06:05:43 AM »
i took my GAMO BC apart last night to tune it and on one end of the spring about 3 inches up the spring was bent at about 11 degree angle is that common in a springer i put it back together because the reds are really out today.i was just wondering about that... thank you for all the input.              thanks Brian...

Sounds like it took a set. I wouldn't think it's normal. Maybe time for a new spring?

Under the best situations the spring should be straight. But as you shoot it with the factory guides, will allow the spring to bend, as they are not specifically made for one spring, they are made to fit all of the springsGamo has for your model.

And if it has been cocked for some time, it may have taken a set, or it could have come from the factory that way ?

If you like the way it shoots, and doesn't make noise, keep shooting it :emoticon:

Ends of the spring need to be ground down as smooth as possible. I use a grinding wheel, then a Dremil with a sanding drum to touch it up and finally buff it out with jewelers rouge. Add a little moly to the ends and no more grinding and creaking when cocked.

Happy Shooting!!!!

What pellets are you using? Have you tried several brands or types? Each AG likes to be fed different food. Even the same model and brand of gun could work better with different ammo. My advice is to get an assortment pack from PA or other supplier. You could have a bad breach seal but most likely cause is the wrong pellet for that gun.

Happy Shooting!!!!

What you see is a very common Gamo problem.
It is because the spring is loose on the rear spring guide.
If you count the number of coils from the end of the spring, you will find that it is bent at the 8th coil. This is also where your spring is going to break.
You have three alternatives here.
One: use electricians shrink-tube to take up some of the play between spring and rear guide.
Two: have a top hat and rear spring guide turned up to fit your spring.
Three: buy a kit comprised of top hat, mainspring, rear spring guide and piston seal.

For your information, every single Gamo I have opened has had either a bent or broken spring.
First prize went to a CF-30 which was broken in two paces.

The simplest solution is to fit a gas ram.
This will eliminate any potential spring problems and give a more manageable recoil.

It will outlast the gun.   PM me for details.
