the evanix blizzard blew into s.c..............

the blizzard arrived today.  this is NOT a carbine size rifle!....it is a full grown woman!...the action alone is 44 inches long.   i charged it up to 210 bar and starting plinking before i put a scope on it.  it is shooting .22 crow mags at 1122fps....around 51 fpe!!!!  i have some of the new jsb monsters but i will wait until i get the scope mounted before i start shooting those.   i got 30 shots off before it hit the 100 bar mark.  this gun is heavy..it weighs in around 9lbs but it is very well balanced and does not feel top-heavy so with the scope mounted it should weigh about 11lbs.  it is as quiet as the marauder and has almost 2x the power.  this is a keeper.  i will post pics when i get the scope mounted and have time to post the groupings.

Wow, Roger, that's a long way from the 35+ fpe that PA claims!  I thought my Renegade was slightly more powerful, but I guess not.  Wonder if it's because the Crow Mags tend to be a long pellet, it'll be interesting to see what it does with some different pellets.  Sounds like a tank next to my Renegade carbine, even with the scope mounted mine doesn't hit 8 lbs.  Looking forward to hearing more.  My Renegade loves the Monsters, BTW.  Later.

this blizzard is not new......a "big-bore" enthusiast in flordia had it and did a little "queaking" on it.....in GTA TERMS...'' it has been woodcocked"...ha!!!...its a real powerhouse and fun to blow things up with!...ha!....it demolished my spoon spinners.  the only problem is i only get about 9 fills from a scuba tank with it so i guess i'm gonna have ask santa for a hpa compressor...

Couple of questions. Explain to a newbie looking over the wall at the Dark Side, what woodcocking the gun does and any other mods it has. One thing I have a hard time understanding is three tests PA did (probably Paul or Tom) was at 3 different initial fill levels. Why, if you initial load it higher, it has a lower fpe output? Seems the opposite of what I would expect. Maybe with the higher pressure the valve closes quicker, therefore letting less air in????? Sorry, the engineer and tinkerer in me wants to understand. LOL

Post pictures and thanks for the report. Looking forward to seeing more. And I head the Dark Side has cookies too. I'm getting ready to climb over the wall.....

Ezman, those aren't 3 different test it's a 30 shot string divided into 10 shots because 1 magazine holds 10 pellets.  They're showing what the remaining pressure is at the end of each 10 shot magazine & velocity is for each shot for 30 shots.

Dooohhhhh....I was just looking at the first shot of each string. Looking at the average of each string, they are staying in the same range. Not varying that much as pressure gets less. My bad....I'll go back to my corner now.

As I understand it....most PCPs have a "sweet spot".....meaning a range where the airgun will shoot around the same fps....let's say from shot #6 to shot #28. The first few shots will shoot slower due to too much pressure on the valve causing vapor lock and the last few shots due to lower pressure. Also the weight of the hammer and strength of the spring will affect how much air is released during a shot.

Most PCP airgun users if they have a chronograph....will test to see which shot# will start to give them the optimum speed/power....and they'll fill their airtube to that level so the first shot would be right on....or close to it.

For me.....if I'm not target shooting, I just fill my PCP's airtube very close to the max and plink away...that way I get more shots per fill.

Forgot to mention; Roger, Congrats on your new purchase. That unique Blizzard is a real powerhouse!!!

"woodcocked" is a term used in reference to j.woodcock.  j is an airgun "extremeist" to put it lightly.  when j mods a gun out it will blow your socks off.

Now that you have had it for a week are you going to post more on its performance and what was done to enhance it before you got it? Am intersted in what can be done and if has any effect on the life of the rifle.

the ar6 is loud.  it has a ton of power and sounds like a rimfire when it goes off.  its a great hunter but NOT QUIET!!

Totaly correct....I have had 2 AR6s....They only really have one use ...hunting..
If yer after a backyard plinker/target gun yer barking up the wrong tree with a AR....
limited shot count....louds a understatment....
65fpe but can be tuned to 90+ but only 7 to 9 full power shots
about 12 to 15 @ 65 fpe...they have no power adjuster...
But watch the fur fly when yer wack a hopper at 70m..

its been about 3 weeks now that i have been shooting the evanix blizzard.  its an air hog compared to the disco or marauder but really isn't bad in the over-all picture.  it fills to 200 bar and i get about 15 good power shots off above 50fpe then it drops down in the 40fpe range for the next 20 shots.  i am getting around 35 shots a fill off of it.  it is really quiet except for the "ping" resonance in the air tube.  i am going to take it apart sometime and put a depinger in the tube to fix that but right now i'm having way too much fun with it to take it apart.  the indexing of magazines is really smooth.  this gun likes the "heavies", i mean the "real heavies".....25g or more.  the lighter pellets like the crow mags and kodiaks just fly all over the place but the jsb monsters and eun jin pellets shoots very well.  the monsters will group dime size at 50 yards.  it is a long gun but i am getting use to that but that is a small price to pay for the power and accuracy.  i pumped this gun up with the handpump yesterday for the first time and it is a work-out! but it can be done!!  i cannot find any information on tuning or modding the blizzard on any of the forums since it is not a popular gun yet so next year i plan to take it apart and start tinkering so maybe i can give some insight on the gun to others that are interested.  i just received a schematic from evanix but it is written in korean but a picture is worth a thousand words ( even if you can't read it ).

I pump mine up with a Hill pump and it isn't too bad. Use the body and it doesn't aggravate the tendonitis like the springer does.

Would shoot a bit today but we are in the midst of a real Blizzard. 35-40mph winds with gusts over 60mph. About a foot of snow and the drifts are hitting the three foot mark by the barn already. No driving for at least a day or so.

I do like the rifle and as posted on another Blizzard thread am checking the pressure drop at varying coldl temps. Will be relatively nice the next few days, a bit above zero to 15 above. Just the wind making it difficult. Next week we should be well under zero and for some time to come. Then I'll keep track of the pressure in the rifle as well as pumping it back up in sub-zero temps.

The rifle shoots well and is very comfortable in use. There is a pellet rifle club at a nearby High School and I have yet to meet them and their advisor. Will do that after the holidays and maybe I can learn a bit more about these things.

Merry Christmas to you guys and you don't know what you are missing in watching a full on blizzard while warm and inside. Even better when I can get out and photograph in it. Stunning beauty and stark contrast on the prairie during the winter only surpassed in the spring and summer with the intense colors. What a great place to live.
