value in the toilet
« on: December 17, 2009, 02:08:03 AM »
I realize this should probably be in either the Crosman or PCP gate, but am looking for everyone's opinion. When the Marauder first came out, I wanted one of the first 100 and an extra $40.00 didn't seem unreasonable. But now PA is letting them go for $469.97. Now that's $70.00 less than I paid, plus I paid the shipping. It will be a cold day before I buy anything new from Crosman again, that's for sure. When you add the loss of $85.00+ on top of the fact they changed the baffles, trigger and bolt due to failures, it gives me a very cold feeling. Merry Christmas everyone - Lee

That's the benefit of being the 1st 100 Marauder owners. Just like when I got my 52 inch HDTV..regular was $2500 then went on sale for $2200 so I jump on it. After a yr and half it goes for $1500.. I just conditioned my mind that it's cheaper now because they use cheaper parts now. ;=)

Lee,- when you hop/jump in on a first release, or pre-release, you're begging to pay "top dollar".  - Look at the folks that stand in line a day in advance to buy some stupid new software release. They often pay 3-5x's (or more) what the exact same thing will sell for a month later. - That's ALL a totally voluntary act on their part, ... nuff said.

Lee, I like seeing and reading about new items that come on the market. You mention 2 reasons that I never rush out to buy the latest and greatest. The price for ANY newly released product is going to be higher because the manufacturer is going to try and recoup production costs. Then, after they see the demand and supply levels, and after the initial "new" factor starts wearing off, prices will start to get more competitive. Unless of course there is only ONE distributor.

The other reason I don't rush out and get the latest things is the lack of "field" testing. ANY item needs to be out in public use to uncover any flaws in design, defects in the manufacturing processand theneed for modifications and improvements. I just don't like being a guinea pig.

In my experience, Crosman has some excellent customer service. Ifyouare dissatisfied with the AG, I'd contact them and explain the whole thing. As an example, I've needed a part that was not readily available. But, they went to the warehouse and pulled a complete gun, removed the part I needed and shipped to me at no cost. You might be surprised at their response to your grievance. I can't speak for them and can't guarantee your outcome, but it's worth a try. Drop a note to Kim Yaddow of customer service kyaddow@crosman.com and see what they say. She might not be able to do anything about an "after the fact" sale but should be able to do somethingabout the production change issues. Worth a try anyway.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Dave

don't fell bad... i would still pay 500+ to own a marauder when only 100 would be out there... it is special. the ones built now are, well, crosman air rifles... not the "first 100". get it?

It's like anything else that comes out new. When first introduced, you always pay top dollar and that is to be expected and very few things are discounted initially. As time goes by and the initial sales volume drops off, the prices drop also to maintain the volume.

i always wait a year to a year and a half to purchase anything its best that way cause u will see the mistakes within 6months time i dont care if its the first 100 it doesnt mean u r getting a better airrifle thats why i hold on .i like buying airrifles based on there reputation after the year has passed on cause the problems occur with in that time frame....jorge

I've never understood the 'rush' to get the first few of anything.

Even when viewed years later as a collectors item, it's all too often not the best of whatever the production run was, probably still has many of the original 'warts' that got fixed or improved in later production... and at a higher price.

Yup....same with cars.  My Toyota Matrix is a first-year model and no matter how I tried to talk it down...the salesmen wouldn`t reduce the price....in any dealership.  I had to get a hatchback and the Honda I was driving then had 3 wheels in the grave heh heh.  At that time (2003)....no other hatchback interested me.  Now the Matrixs are being reduced to sell.  After 6 years a new Matrix is only $1200.00Can more than what I paid (Still a deal).  Luckily the Toyotas are build good.....no problems with her yet....knock on wood.

It's the price of being an "early adopter" whether it be a new model rifle, or that new LED flat screen TV, latest computer, tech. gadget, etc.

How would you like to be one of those who paid full freight on the CFX's that are now $100 less?

The other thing it will drive down is the used market for Marauders. When the marauders were still very new if (and I mean if) one showed up on the classified, it still fetched a good portion of it's original retail price. Now, the new ones cost less than the used did not too long ago. You can ( could, the deal may  have expired) pick up a new Marauder for about $358! I was sooo close to ordering one, too. So now what's a used one worth if I can get a new one for $358.

At Dick's sporting goods. But you have to use the Bing cash back system. But the promotion may be over.
