Target SPECS needed
« on: December 18, 2009, 11:21:24 AM »
Could we get the ring diameters (in mm) of the various targets specified in a frozen post.
I just printed the JPG of the 10m AP target using 3 different programs, and I got 3 different sizes.  The horizontal diameter of the 1 ring measured 143mm, 156mm and 167mm.  This is a 1 inch difference between the 2 extreems.  Worse yet, the default for many programs is to scale to fit the page, so people could be shooting on wrong size targets w/o realizing it.

I would love to shoot my 167mm target against someone shooting a 143mm target.  I get the advantage of a higher scoring target.

Then only way to know that the targets are consistent is to know the ring diameters.
OR at least the diameter of the 1 ring, where any scaling issues will be easiest to see.
Then we can measure our targets to confirm that our targets are printed to spec.

As shown in my example, the specs have to come from whoever is defining the targets, my measuring the rings I print is NOT valid.  I do not know which ring diameter is correct.  Although for the 10m AP target I suspect 156mm is correct, as the regulation target is 155.5mm.

FYI, some printers/programs will NOT print a true circle.  If you measure the diameter of the ring on the Horizontal and Vertical axis, you may find that the 2 numbers are not the same.  Some printers will be better than others at this.  And I have had printers that were REALLY FAR OFF, where you could easily see that the target was NOT round.  And if you photocopy your targets, the same scale and H and V axis issues applies.

That is a GREAT question. I also noticed the targets will print out different sizes. I've just been selecting "fit to page" when I print them but I'd like to know the correct size too.

I get my targets from here  http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=16018&posts=3&start=1  and I get  the B-2 / 25yard target from Murray's here http://murraysguns.com/download/index.htm.  It is important to always use the correct target size each time my HP printer have an advance selection so can be to scale sometimes a pdf is not save to scale which can make it hard to scale:)

The first link to the GTA targets, all the targets are JPGs.
So there is the same problem that I had with my 10m AP target which is a JPG file also.    http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=16280&posts=1&start=1

With either JPG or PDF, if you select "fit to page" your target is almost guaranteed to be off spec.  The program is scaling the target to fit to the printable area of the printer.

BTW
I sent Gene a copy of the Pellant target program to put into the library.  With this program, given the ring specs, anyone with a PC can make their own targets.

Try removing the program then reinstalling it.
It might restart the evaluation period.
