Great problem, choosing a new PCP
« on: December 20, 2009, 02:35:41 PM »
I was a firearms reloader until prices went crazy. Now selling powderburners to buy airguns.  Been a PCP shooter for 6 months started with a 177  Discovery and was impressed, got a 177  Marauder -was impressed some more. Added a QB79 with a tank and it is a great indoor range gun, but a lot slower than the Benjamins. My Disco is going to a new home soon, so I am looking for the next step up  in PCP power and accuracy. If I could swing an FX, but $1000+  is too much right now. Thinking 22 Marauder, 22 Talon SS, or maybe a Evanix Blizzard. $600 is about tops for my budget. Your input welcome.

If you want power look at the Blizzard. I am satisfied with mine. Very nice looking also.
That Gene and some others who are much more experienced than I are looking at getting one says a lot about them.

What about a Career Infinity... .22 45fpe shooting 14.5gr pellets @ 1220
can hit 55fpe with 32gr pellets...
Evanix are great guns..just sold my AR6...But they are heavy
the Career Infinity is the gun that Evanix used to base the Blizzard from...

But really a Theoben is a  nice gun...massive shot counts..just nice hi end guns...

So what are your main priorities?  A stock Marauder in .22 will get you about 30 fpe, Talon SS will be a little lower, the Blizzard will get you in the mid 30's, I believe.  All of them should be reasonably quiet, with the noise level lining up with the power.  The Marauder and Blizzard are classic designs, so ergonomics shouldn't be an issue, but the Talon/Condor are known for issues in that regard.  The Talon trigger is not adjustable, although it can be modded to be pretty nice.  If you like modular rifles that you spend as much time tinkering with as you do shooting, the Air Force guns have your name all over them.  If you want a rifle you can take out of the box and start shooting, not so much.  Scope mounting on the AF guns is also problematic, you need really high mounts AND a riser to get a good head position, and a good cheek weld is also a problem.  It's also the only single shot on your list.  Marauder and Blizzard are both supposed to have good triggers, I've heard mixed reviews on the Marauder re: out of the box accuracy and fit and finish.  I've only seen a couple of reviews on the Blizzard, I don't remember any negatives.

If you're looking at Evanix, you might want to put the Renegade on the list as well.  I have a carbine, it's light, under 8 lbs. with scope, and compact at just over 36".  Nice balance and a very good single stage trigger.  It's a revolver that can be fired single or double action, follow up shots are as fast as anything else out there, and faster than most.  That's a nice bonus if you're looking at a dedicated hunter, not so much if you plan on mostly punching paper.  But then, if you were looking for a paper puncher, there's no reason to get a .22 :-).  If you're interested in more info, here's the link to my review: http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=22448&mid=178476#M178476  Good luck in your search, keep us posted.  Later.

All those mentioned are very nice rifles....another to consider is the BSA line, they arevery under rated in their power department....mine is stated to be a 30-35 fpe gun and the first shot from a 3200 fill with a 32 grain eunjun get around 51fpe!!!! EXTREMELY accurate....have taken game honestly at 80 85 yards and for sure can go WAY farther. They are RIFLES....feel like rifles...shoot like rifles...look like rifles....match barrels.

Career Infinity, Sumatra and Blizzard are all on my short list.
Currently have a B50 in .22 that I hate to admit I thought about selling, before I started tuning it. Now I'm really starting to love it. Can't sell it. Just wish it had iron sights. I may make some for it.

If you want a quiet, powerful gun, the Blizzard would fit the bill.
I have a Sam Yang 909 .45 caliber PCP and it's a HAMMER! Very powerful. Kinda loud. ;`) and very nicely made.

i got mine about a week ago and gone through 2 tanks of air already.  i cannot shoot it enough!...the gun is deadly accurate at 50 yards with quarter-sized groups at 50+ fpe.  mine had a few mods made to it to produce that power but the stock ones still generate aroung 40+ fpe.  it is an air-hog but WOW!...WHAT POWER!!!..it slings 28.4 grain pellets well over 900 fps.  mine is as quiet as the marauder.  the previous owner said he never touched the baffles in the shroud.  i have learned to use the hand pump up to around 2200 psi and then finish filling with the scuba tanks to get more fills.  for a few extra bucks more than the marauder you get 2x the power if you want something to hunt with.  the blizzard is NOT a plinking gun unless you have your own compressor to fill the tanks with.  the blizzard is HEAVY (around 9lbs) and is 46 inches long.  IT IS NOT A CARBINE!!!..but it certainly will blast the crap out anything.  i put a hole into a pontoon on a boat with it at 30 yards........OOOOPs....hope my neighbor is not on this forum!...ha!...oh well, NO WAKE ZONE  means NO WAKE!!!!!!!!
