Hello,

I also have a B51 5,5 mm and as a lot of others, it performs better at 160 Bar (820fps with Baracuda/Beeman Kodiak 21gr). I'm looking for a setup that help's the consistency.
My goal is to keep a 1/2" group at 55 yards.
The gun is original still, but I intend to start wiggling it as soon as possible...
Any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Leonardo

John, I like your B50/51 pics/ideas. Keep 'em coming.

What kind of velocities are possible with the light hammers?  If you recall, I'm all about hunting with my B50. I think a lighter hammer/spring and valve spring could be used to get 40 fpe without battering the valve stem. Provided all three items are in the correct balance.

I have a piece of teflon rod that I could make a hammer body out of. Could use steel or aluminum for the nose.

Or I could make one from delrin  rod. Teflon's slicker, though.

My valve stem does not have the 2 steps in diameter. It just has one step, from large to small. It also has a small brass bushing on it where the spring bears.

Forgot to ask. Do you have or know anyone who has any experience with the BigEd breech riser and barrel shroud for the B50/51? I'm wanting to find out how effective it is before buying one.
Mouse fart quiet would be really nice.

Leo,

The Library link up top is your friend :
http://www.klickcue.com/air_rifle/b50_51/technical_details_for_adjusting_the_bam_b50_51.pdf
That's a great start (compiled by ChrisK) .
Jaymo, shorten the striker 2mm period (that's it nothing else folks, stock spring, T.P. ....) fill to 3000psi and you have 40fpe. I believe BigEd now gets up to 60fpe from the Bam50/51 but I am not current on exactly what he is doing to get that.
And yes I know first hand about BigEd's riser/shroud set up:

that would be a Bam I owned ( and would have kept except for Cancer) . I took it down to "The Playground of Champions" and the first comment was, that is quiter than anything AZ ever made -yup- then after a few shots " there is not a single thing wrong with that rig" . Totally silent period, much quiter than just anything else you can buy (well okay I didnt hear one Theoben Vanquish that was equaly quite after some work). That so called mouse F quite is loud compaired to a BigEd shroud - but- I was only shooting a full 20fpe. It is a beefy shroud:

2mm off the striker (aka Hammer):

and yes I have a few of Chris's charts on what does what but he was going for stable shot count not power:

and just because I was digging for Bam pics, here's of of myself with my best Hunting Dog:

I will dig up some more #'s and setting soon if ya'll like.

Thanks a lot!

I'll give a full and detained look at the .pdf before doing anything!

Let me bother You a little more... Have You tried some long range groupings with your old Bam? Or better, what was the average distance You've used to shot when hunting?

And, may You tell me how many good shots per fill You used to got?

I picked up some black Delrin rod today and am planning on using that to make my ambidextrous cocking handle. It may make a LH breech a moot point. We'll see.  I plan on making a few transfer ports, also. I'll make stock, and a little smaller sizes.
If I do make a LH breech, I'll probably sacrifice my MP512 for the cause and use it's .22 barrel on the BAM. I've been wanting to convert the 512 to .177, anyway.
I had only taken off 1.5 mm from the hammer initially. I went back and took off the additional 2mm and shortened the striker screw. I'd like to make a replacement striker without a screw.
I'm just looking at ways to make 40 or so fpe AND reduce the cocking effort, while reducing the hammering taken by the valve stem.

I think i need to make a depinger.
