This is an outline of where I am--I've been having fun playing with my Diana54 for months with no frame of reference, I must have tried about 20+ different pellets, spent hours tweaking everything double checking, ball tension spring down to 16th turns, holds, including front rests and bench rests and come down to 3 pellets that work best CP 10.5gr /RWS smag wads 9.3gr /beeman FTS 8.8gr. Although is does shoot most anything well, I am being very critical no rush at all I have same point of impact for the 9.3gr wads@short range and the 10.5gr CP's @long range.
Thanks to Gene's tune it chronies in the 12ish fps variation, amazing work thanks again Gene, I think this ones going to be a 10 shot pellet stacker:) I can get one ragged hole at 15M all day long, with open sights and a front rest. note I choose 15m and 25m with iron sights due to my eye sight. With a scope I am thinking 80yds plus hehe:) I am over 600+ shots with open sights and now ready to mount one of my hawke scopes I got from Bahwanna thanks again to Roger:)
Ok now hear is the question for other Diana54 owners ... the Diana54 has a no recoil system as you all know. When i use a heavier pellet it seems to make a higher pitch springish noise thunk and the action does not go all the way back, it stops about 1/8 inch short of full back but seems like a perceived more abrupt movement and then when I use a lighter pellet it makes a lower pitch spring noise thunk but the action goes all the way back may be lightly hitting the stop, seems like it should be other way around to me as less air pressure or perhaps the added weight of pellet actually slows the piston movement? I am concerned about mounting the scope and the perceived abrupt heavy pellet movement and the light pellet hitting that is my worry? Is this slight back movement variation something normal or am I over thinking ... will I need to cater for the added scope weight to all this action movement? My goal is to try and get the best possible.. then the other part will be just me:) Any thoughts /comments on what is normal recoil and movement on the 54 will be much appreciated
