PAWN STARS
« on: January 05, 2010, 01:57:56 AM »
Almost forgot to mention that I had spent two weeks in Las Vegas in December 09.   While I was there I decided to check-out the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, which is featured on T.V.s Pawn Stars.   Got to meet everyone except Rick.   Big Hoss, Chumlee and the "Old Man" where there and I was able to have some items autographed by them.   They are the same in person as they are on the show.   Especially the "Old Man".   Was unable to spend much time speaking with them as thier shop has now become a tourist attraction and they were packed.

What got me thinking about them is that the shooting that took place yesterday, 1-04-2010 in Vegas is just about 1 block from the Pawn Shop.   My wife and I had stood in the front of the building where the shootings took place admiring the architecture.

Also in person the shop is not as nice a shown in the show.  Think cluttered.    Reminded me of the shop that my Grandfather had in L.A. in the 50s and 60s that dated from the 20s .

If I had known how cold it was going to be here in the East,  I would have stayed in Vegas until Spring.

That is way kewl. I love that show. Like Rick says, you never know WHAT'S going to walk through the door. And I'm a history buff anyway and the history behind some of the stuff that comes in there is amazing. I've been to Vegas several times and wish I had known about the show or it had been on the air when I made my visits.I surely would have dropped by.

In my previous life I did a stint at a VERY nice pawn shop as mainly the gun broker and electronics repair dude. I KNOW how cluttered a store CAN get. Their store sure looks nice on TV but they generally just show a close up of the counter and the transaction that's being staged. They don't generally pan out to show the whole place. I DID notice the wiring and such around the Old Man and Ricks desk area.Stuff strung every where and every way.

Maybe I'll get yet another chance to visit in the near future. Thanks for the post!!!

I too am guilty of watching the show...   I'm a former bonded pawn broker.  It's always a hoot to see the kinda things that come into these places.
