As I posted earlier,  I had chopped the barrel on a Crosman.   I wanted to save the front sight so I tried to twist the sight off....without any success.   Used heat but it would not budge.  So I wrapped the section of barrel in tin foil and put it in the freezer for a couple of days.  Using leather lined vice grips and a heat source , my next attempt to remove sight was successful.  Sight off in less than 2 minutes.   I salvaged the sight without damage to it.

BTW,  the end of the barrel is 'splined  '  and some epoxy appears to have been used also to secure the sight, so the little b-st-rd is on there tight.

Now to take about 3/4 inch off the butt of the stock.

I did that with both my Crosmans; the Storm and Sierra Pro....but later I decided to put them back on.  What I did was put the muzzle into some very hot water for about 2 minutes and twisted the front sight....didn`t budge.....then I just pulled it straight out and it (Both) came off very easily.  Do not twist, just pull out.

Bogey,

As you figured out it is the splines that prohibit you from twisting it off.  I put a wood block on mine and tapped it with my trusty tack hammer.  I popped off clean.  If you do it this way you preserve the grooves and it is easier to align the sight when replacing.  Obviously if you chop the barrel you lose the splines and ill have to align manually.  For me I muzzled it with a Beeman because it completed the chopped look and it was getting scoped.
