Late model Gamo's brought forward
« on: January 06, 2010, 09:17:52 AM »
The original thread was getting pretty stretched out and also a bit off track at times so I "re-lit" it....lol...

There have been a number of people that have them and so far the it seems that there is little or no improvement and nothing positve said about them. Gene has had a couple of them in for tuning and is considering not taking in any more of the late model Gamo's because of the poor modification that were done and not being able to make the improvements needed to make them into the shooters that the older models were.

I have seen one of them that Gene had in and I would agree with him and if I were still in the business, I don't think I would work on them either. You just can't provide the customer what he pays for.

Like I said in the initial post, I have been a big supporter and promoter of most of the Gamo models for many years and have always felt they were a "diamond in the rough" . But.... not any longer. No longer will you be able to make them perform like the earlier versions. If tuned and lubed right, and especially if TurboTuned, the Gamo's were a super shooter but it won't be that way any longer (at least not without a lot more expense if at all). It won't be the way it used to be with the Gamo's any more. The new ones will be limited to a Super Tune at best.

My suggestion to anybody considering purchasing a Gamo, if it's not the early model, give it a second and serious thought. If I were ordering a Gamo, I would ask the dealer which ones he has before placing the order. If it's the Gamo with the plastic trigger, I wouldn't order it,

Looking at it you can't tell but if you take a magnet and check the trigger blade and safety and it's not metal, step back. And if you want to get a good Gamo, you had better get it now before they are all gone.

The time has come to really look the other way and spend a little more and consider the RWS or something else at that level or buy something Chinese. At least they can be tuned and have really good results and a good trigger when done.

I myself am saddened to see the Gamo's go this direction with the trigger's since like Brother Bob I considered the Gamo's a diamond in the rough and have a fondness for em. I am still trying to understand the reasoning behind this decision since there is no improvement in the trigger. In my opinion Gamo has strayed even further from putting out a product that can be improved on with Genes fantastic tune job's and Bob's top of the line trigger. If Gamo had there game on they would have a tech guy sign on to GTA as a family member  :) and get the real world skinny on their shooter's since the proof is in the pudding and not in someones so called brainstorm up in a exec's office ........just my pellet's worth. :) Ed

I agree ED.  The GAMO rifles were a great  way for new shooters to get into the sport with a minimum initial investment and at the same time have a rifle that could be turned into a mighty fine shooter with some basic upgrades and work.    I'm glad I picked up a couple of the "original" GAMO Shadows when WallyWorld was selling them for $75 bucks a couple of years ago.  :)  I scoped them all and they are fine, accurate shooters but they've just been sitting in my gun safe as I haven't really shot them much.  I also have an 890 that is a super shooter.  That rifle also has just been sitting in the gun safe.  I was gonna sell them but now I think I'll hold onto them for awhile  :)

Surely the Gamo clones should now enjoy increased demand.

Charley and Gene, could you kindly post the various "brand name" guns which are clones? It will be very much appreciated.
