Discovery out of the box
« on: January 10, 2010, 04:48:56 AM »
Hi. I'm going to own this air rifle soon and it will be my first PCP.  I have been reading up on this rifle as to modify it.  So far I'm going to put a TKO trigger on it and maybe muzzle brake.  I cant have this be any louder than my Gamo Varmint Hunter with gas ram.  What is the deal with the barrel? Does it need a second clamp?  Out of the box, will I need to disassemble, clean, and de burr? This is new to me and I want to do it right the first time.

You'll need the muzzle attachment (TKO again) to get it quiet enough... follow the instructions well about mounting it and getting it aligned with the bore.  As for the trigger/barrel band/etc, I'd shoot it and see how it does.  Are some that are just fine, don't need any barrel work or orhter types of tuning at all.   Others tend to drastically change point of impact from day to day...those are helped by the 2nd band.

Trigger kit is a good idea.  Would still shoot it as issued to see as once in awhile Crosman lets one slip though with a half way decent trigger (the TKO kit will still help make it nicer).

I bought the TKO brake for my Discovery and far as sounds goes I couldn't tell much if any difference, in other words makes about same noise as before.  But I did like the look on the gun and that was the main reason to buy it. The quality is top notch

All I did to my Disco .177 out of the box was clean the barrel with Goo Gone, add the TKO 6.5 brake and a scope. It is very backyard friendly and one of the most accurate airguns I have. Use it the way it comes out of the box for a while just to make sure it's OK from the factory. If there are any problems with it you can return it to Crosman for an exchange as long as you haven't modified anything. I don't think the stock trigger is bad at all. Some pellets load better than others so I haven't found any need to have the load port polished. Crosman Premier Heavy pellets in the box load great and shoot the best out of all the pellets I have tried. You will love the Disco.

I have the 6.5 inch TKO brake on mine and it's amazing.  Prior to  installing the brake it was way to loud to shoot in my backyard range.  With the brake I can shoot all day and noone will even know I'm shooting.  It really does work extremely well.

As for the trigger.... the trigger on mine out of the box was nice and I saw no reason to fiddle with it or change it.  Shoot yours for awhile and see how it is.....
