Chicago gun control case and Federalism
« on: January 16, 2010, 05:02:09 AM »
As a citizen in a state that isn't likely to impose gun restrictions in any foreseeable future, one facet of the Chicago gun control case worries me.

All sorts of similes come to mind; to true conservatives, this would be like winning a battle and losing the war.

We had a short thread about this a few months ago, but this guy does a much better job of explaining it than I did.

Be careful what you wish for.  We won't always have a conservative majority on the Supreme Court.  The plaintiff is seeking to invest all sorts of powers in the Feds, to the detriment of states, through the privileges and immunities clause of the 14th Amendment.

If you live in a conservative state, you may want to step back a bit and look at this case again.
