Loud cars and thumping it

So what's the deal with the sudden surge of these pesky vehicles? I mean darn it's annoying to be awoken late at night by these racers zipping down the street with their poorly upgraded rides and with that excessively loud fart cannon of a muffler. And not to mention those loud radios that shake the whole house -- going at about 10-15MPH up and down my street day and night, 24/7, every day for gosh knows how long in the future...



Any particular reason why this is happening? Or is it just a lame group of people who act as they wish going against the "norm" of today's intended society? Preferably a quiet society in the long run..



Any thoughts or am I just going insane?

Hey Jarred, I believe those people have a problem with low self esteem or an inferiority complex and are desperate for attention, the same with motorcycle riders with those extremely loud pipes. Crying out "please look at me". Either that, or they are sadistic,uncaring morons who take pleasure in inconveniencing and annoying others.
 I don't see any relief in sight because it seems manners and compassion are looked down on in some areas of this society. God help us, snookman

Every generation seems to need something to call their own. This is just a throwback to the 60's ! When everyone supped up their cars, burned rubber up and down the streets, just to show the girls of the daythat they hadreached their maturity! They didn't have amplifiers and "boom boxes" back then :)



Different music, hair styles, languageand clothing styles to show their different, new and improved, better than the generation of the "OLD FARTS". They just want you to know that they have arrived, and are New and Improved :-) Remember 23 skidoo ? A real gone cat, groovy ? Doode !



It's been going on since the dawn of time, otherwise we would still be wearing robes :-)



Just sit back and wait for the next generations attempt to be different, it should be a smash !

Hello, you live in Redlands. That city has been going down hill and fast for a long time now. I grew up in Highland in the 80's and Redlands was concidered the place to go for the upper middle class. It has become just like downtown San Bernardino now. Good point though Big Bill.

Yeah, I remember glass packs and Thrush mufflers, too. Of course, the engines in those days could crank out some deep, throaty rumbles. Today, it's either a trumpet exhaust the size of a 16" gun on a Honda Civic or thirty thousand bass decibels shaking squirrels out of trees. Time will come for this New Generation when they will be spending about ten grand on each ear for a pair of hearing implants rather than a sub-woofer the size of a sofa.  :D

Some of the local farmers call them, "earth compactors".  :D

Years of commuting to work in an AMX with turbo mufflers and a just-barely street legal exhaust system that ended under the front seats.  Even more years as a drummer stuck back by all the speaker cabinets.  M-16's on full auto. And starting as a kid, years of indoor range target shooting.  Years of trap/ skeet shooting ... now, I'm surprised I have any hearing (but I do hear crickets 24/7) and those darn car stero's still seem way too loud !!!!  Yeah, those kids will be deaf by the time they're 30.

AMX Cool Paul! Old AMC fan here ( first was a '73 Hornet X with a Thrush muffler LOL) Yea I was in rock bands in the 60s that and shotgunning with no ear protection and my hearing is not the best. I have said sense they stared putting in the high powered amps in cars that investing in hearing aid company's would be a good idea ; ) . Gees every time I get in my daughters car to move it I have to turn the volume down ( I tell her its not good for her but they don't listen)

Had a '68 Javelin. Always thought the AMX was nice, escpecially the '69/'70. From what I understand, you needed a ton of sand bags in the rear to hold it down, though.



Once, while driving to work, I heard this extremely loud bass but could not tell where from? Pulled into a left turn lane at the next light and there was a middle-aged fellow in a Honda Accord in front of me. I noticed that his driver's mirror was jarring with each beat of the music. It was his car! Sure wouldn't liked to have been a passenger in that. Sometimes I get one of these next to me and it actually makes my stomache turn. Must be the low frequency.

Good points you all -- you guys always find some way to make my smile even in the darkest day :)

But yes, Redlands is becoming a downtown San-Bernardino style city. I think at about early/mid 2008 is when this "ruckus" started to pick up. It first started with those project cars (domestics), then the mufflers came in, then the tricked out cars (import sedans), then the really custom cars (company supported), bikers (Harley's)  -- soon enough loud radios started to make way; and now there are upgraded trucks rummaging through the streets with loud radios and their loud engines that huff and puff through that chrome polished piece of junk for a muffler *sigh* And to top it off, motorcycles have been making a scene as well. I mean come on, they would bearable before but now they're loud as ever! Even in downtown old's Ville Redlands is becoming that way. So even if I move this trend will follow.. Hopefully the next generation will prove to be a little bit better. However I highly doubt it being as that certain individuals tend to make the unpopular and annoying things to be popular. I nod my head at today's society. To think I was nice enough to get a Whisper rifle to shoot out back...should of got a magnum for heavens sake. But hey, that would mean I would be competing with "their" pathetic game.

Most of these guys are making up for what they lack...

    I used to run with the Hot Rod import scene back when it was still and underground thing. At it's peak, there was some REALLY fast cars. Most of them were loud, but not unbearably. When people on the outside saw this, they figured all they had to do was gut their cats and add a fart can then they'd be fast. Or add spoilers, body kits and what not... After a certain "Fast & Furious" movie came out, most of us left the scene because way too many Wanna-Be's screwed it up for everyone. It gave us a bad image.  YES, we street raced. But it was almost always in an organized and controlled fashion. Away from the prying eyes of the public and generally on back roads or industrial parks at 2 in the morning where if anything happened... It would happen to us and NOT innocent bystanders. Same thing with motorcycles. I've been riding sportbikes for nearly all my life. Then a couple movies and rap videos come out and the wanna-be's screwed it up for the responsible folks.  The majority of it is driven by the media. If it wasn't for music videos and video games, virtually no one would know about this crap. I used to live in Oakland and I heard "Iss awl 'bout da munney mang... Gotta floss (show)  it  if ya got it! " on a daily basis...

The public almost never see's the good, but always notices the bad...

But remember... The image is just what being shown in excess by the media right now. As soon as the TV, movie and music industries move on to something different so will the rest of these brain dead, dope smokin a-holes. 15 years ago it was boom boxes, leavin the sales tags on your shirts and wearin your pants backwards. Today hotrods are back in fashion, so are a mouth full of gold and 36 inch wheels on an 89 Buick LeSabre. Tomorrow??? Who knows....

i like to thump but there is a time and place to everything i guess the older you get you put away childish things thumping at 11pm at night i had to get on my nierhbors kid about that %^* last night in the bloody rain :emoticon:
