Not really a review about Predator pellets..
« on: April 01, 2007, 06:52:25 AM »
but more of a question. OK. Here goes it. My S1K had around 8k to 10k pellets est. before the spring broke. I started shooting the Predator pellets after around 2500 shots after I realized the S1K loved them. Never again did another brand pellet enter that rifle.

The thing about this pellet is this. This is the ONLY pellet that "dropped" into the breach without ANY resistance at all. Very odd I think. All other pellets had to be pushed in the breach a bit to load correctly.  But the Predator shoots better than any other's that I have tried out.
That said, what are your thoughts on this pellet's "smooth" loading, and perhaps that it could be a bad thing for an airgun spring? I know that an airgun's spring life is limited, BUT....do you think this pellet could have contributed to the broken spring in any way?

One more point. I have noticed that the "seam" of preditors is virtually impossible to see with the naked eye..(well my eyes anyway)!

Ha Ha....got you thinking now  :) I love this pellet...but...do airguns love it,....really? 8)

Hey Greg,

I have some rifles where the predators are a tight fit and I have some rifles where they are a loose fit and just drop right in.  However both sets of rifles shoot them really well and I l love the pellets, especially for hunting.

I don't really know the answer to your question, but I'm glad you asked it as I'm sure there are more than a few guys here who are qualified to answer it and I'm as curious as you now.

No expert either, but with 8 to 10k pellets, that sping had a nice long life.  I only got about 2500 each on both the springs in my CFX, before swithcing to the gas ram.  My bosses S1K is the same with Superdomes, they drop in with no resistance.  But turn the barrel up, and they stay in place, and it shoots them like crazy.  If it was me, I wouldn't worry about it.  As the man said, if it works, don't fix it :-)!  I know, that doesn't apply to airguns and airgunners, but whatever....

Anybody else have an answer?

I suppose you are right Dave. I think that I may be overly concerned with "spring life" but that's just me. Jeff, the pellets stay in the barrel when I turn it up like yours too. I'm hoping that somebody may have some solid evidence on the subject before I send alot more of them through my CFX. :o

Thanks...Greg

you know Greg,,, I've noticed that the skirts on the predators are very soft and deform easily. I'm thinking that perhaps once that blast of air hits them to send them on their way down the barrel that the skirts flare out, effectively creating a solid seal?   Does that sound right??

I think you are on to something there Jeff. Makes sense to me. You are right. The skirt is really flexable and easy to damage and just may "flare out" in the barrel while in transition. Makes me feel more confident using them now. If my spring fails can I get a free CFX....I mean B3 from you.....lol. Thanks Jeff. I appreciate your feedback.  :D

Hey Greg,

I can't take credit for thinking of that,,, just recently Gene made a post in which he said that CDT had mentioned to him that GAMO Hunter pellets, because of their soft flexible skirt, expanded and conformed to the inside barrel diameter to make a good seal, which is why the pellets performed well.   I was thinking of how easily the skirts on the predators deform and figured it was the same principle as the GAMO hunters.
