Crow
« on: January 22, 2010, 03:13:25 PM »
Took this one from 52 yards...Discovery .22 cal..I was well hidden from under a pepper tree when about 40 crows landed about 100 yards away scratching ground feeding..a few started my way so picked one out that was facing me...chest shot using a JSB 15.8 GR....
We been getting rain for past week...this always brings crows in to feed on worms & such...season here runs Dec-April..

They are tough to stalk...and kill for that matter...I only shoot if I have a chest or broadside head shot...think I have got 6-7 to date including last season...

Good shooting.  Crows are indeed a very elusive, hard to hunt animal....

Excellent shot at that Crow with your .22 Disco.  Just make sure the rest of them don't see you....they've a great long memory.

So far I've only gotten 2 Crows....one with a <500fps Diana model 24 rifle at 26 yards distance (Lucky shot...aimed for the body and the pellet was still spinning and smack it right in the head!!!).  Second one was with a .177 FX Cyclone....needed two shots on this one.  First shot went through it's body and broke the opposing wing....it was flapping around on the grass and my second shot went into it's neck....the killing shot.  Distance was 53 yards (Measured with a range finder).
Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

I hunt them at my friends ranch...I think they recognize my car now...when i pull in,they take flight making quite a racket...lol...but my hide is under a pepper tree...so often i just wait...sometimes two hours just to get one...but there are also ground squirrels,so get a few of those as well...

That's a great shot Richard!  Were you well concealed?
Sometimes a few crows land on the far end of my property about 65-70yds out, and as soon as I approach the window without even opening them, they take off.  All I have to do is look at them for 1-2 secs. and they don't like that.  Little do they know they are safe because they are near the road with houses across the street.
Springers:
Diana 36 .177
Diana 350 .22 (donated by Timmy!)
Diana 350 .177

Air Force Condor .25 (Talon Tunes)
Air Force Condor .25 (Lemak)
CO2/Pump:
RWS Hammerli 850 .22
Crosman 2240 Custom .22
A few Crosman pumpers .177
