What would it take to make a45 or 50 caliber
« on: January 25, 2010, 02:25:17 PM »
PCP/HPA pistol from say a 2240 or a 2250 using a 2260 pressure tube?
Where would you find a breech set up for a barrel that large?
I've looked at track of the wolf website but was confused as to what I needed from them.
I've read where others built large caliber airguns and used there barrels.
Where do you get a breech that will accept a.45 or .50 caliber hornady round ball?
I'm seriously thinking about building a PCP/HPA pistol and thought I might as well go ahead and
make it a whopper while I'm at it.
Thanks Ray

LOL.. I'm glad I could be of assistance...

You do realize you will be looking at about 2 shots per fill
Or it going to be that big you may aswell put a stock on it..
most big bores get around 6 shots with there big air tubes..
If you drop the air usage to save on air the pellet/ball will
little more than roll out the end of the barrel..

The best option would be a tank on a shoulder strap hosed to the
pistol..

you are going to have to build a breech/bolt & use a Boss valve
to get enough air  though fast enough...It would need to be unregulated
3000psi  so it can make full use of the airs exspantion...Air at 3000psi
exspands 206 times when it releast...

The 22xx platform was never designed for the amount of air that is required for a
big bore....OR TO OPARATE AT 3000PSI

build from scratch.....ie..mill / lathe & a idea...

Thanks, thats the best advice I've gotten so far.
Looks like I would be needing a big bore air rifle instead of a pistol.
2 shots would suck big time.
I'm gonna have to give this some more thought.
Wonder what it would do to drop down in caliber to say a .25 or a .32?
I know that DAQ used to make one chambered for .308 called the outlaw.
Choices, Choices!!!! ha ha ha
Thanks Ray

I am no expert on this subject so not alot of tech help.  But I was fortunate ( Thanks to Jay:) ) to have an oppurtunity to fire a custom big bore pistol and big bore rifle at one of Timmy's fun shoots. Seems that I recall.308 was a good chioce caliber and 100yds was no problem .45 and .50 better suited the rifles.  One other thing its as loud as a 12g and extreme fun:) Good luck with your quest and I agree a whopper is better:)lol  http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=21087&posts=11&highlight=fun%20shoot%20pictures&highlightmode=1#M168714
