My fingers are too big

I was shooting my new B40 a bit this past weekend.  What I noticed is that the breach end of the barrel is pretty tight with most pellets and REALLY tight with CPLs.  I even tossed a few pellets that I pretty much squished trying to force them into the breach.  So today on my way home from work I stopped by Home Depot and picked up a small tapered Dremel grinding bit.  I thought I could just cock the gun, stuff a towel into the breach to catch debris, and work the breach with the grinding bit between my fingers.  It was a great idea, maybe a great idea for someone with smaller fingers....haha!!  I got some twists in, and it helped a little bit, but I've got to figure out a better way to clean up the lead in of the barrel.  I'd prefer to not tear the gun down if I can figure out a way to do it from the loading port, but even with the guts out I think I'd need a really long tool to get in there.  Any suggestions for a man with big hands?

Dano, if you have a Dremel this attachment might work.  Looks like it would come in handy for a lot of tight places.

This is my biggest complaint about this rifle.  I don't have big finger and it is still a challenge.  Other than that I love this rifle.  My solution has only been to use round nose pellets that are a bit longer such as Kodiaks and barracudas.  The shorter Crossman Premiers are hard to hold sideways to load in the small port and I frequently would drop them.  A smaller round nose will slide in easier.  Mine came with the rear port already ground with a dremel tool so it was tappered.  If this was not done as the other poster suggested do it.  however I would be cautious as to not get to carried away grinding.  If the surface is not supper smooth i would worry about gouging the soft pellet body and screwing up its flight characteristics.  I have not had any luck with wadcutters or hollowpoints.  Even the pointed tip RWS i tried were hard to load.  Try not to get to discouraged.  I know I would shoot mine more if it were not for this problem.   I would still rate this the best Chinese air rifle I have ever shot.  I have at B21 .177 .22, B-26 .22, B-28 .22 Talon PCP, QB-79 .177, Walther Falcon .25 and Benjamin Super Streak .177.

I had the same problem with tight pellets in my B40 but the rifle is very easy to tare down their is almost no preload so the need for a spring compresson is not needed in this rifle just remove the trigger group by pushing it down on something hard like a table and back out the part that holds the trigger group in it will let the trigger out a little maybe 1/2 inch then take the trigger out and the spring as well as the piston and breach you will need to push in on the beat trap relace to get the breach out then you have a nice open way to the breach pellet hole you can slide your dremal in using the flex shaft.and thats all their is to it. It's not rocket science.

Dano, I had this prob with my TX200 and CPLS. FTSs work better but my TX likes CPLs better. So I took a small piece of wet dry sandpaper, rolled into a tube and worked it back and forth. Openned up enough and cpls are snug but not too tight.

Besides I wouldn't use a Dremel with stone. Way too aggressive and you could easily openit up to the point pellets won't seat. I've never seen a Dremel stone small enough anyway.

I use a 12 inch extention for a 1/4 inch shank, take the t handle off my Brownells crown cutter and use that. Then use some 600 grit to smooth any sharp edges inside. then a patch or two in from the muzzle end to clean...you know about watching the crown...

I've got dremel round stones that are 1/8 in dia just need to know where to look.

Ok, you guys win, I'll take it apart.  I wouldn't try to turn the tool with a Dremel, too much chance of going too far, I just wanted to lightly turn it and break the sharp edge.  I was trying to use the lazy man approach and not tear the gun down, but it's not that hard to tear down....I'm just a lazy man:)  Thanks for the suggestions guys, I can probably make an extension to reach that far by center drilling a dowel, then gluing a sharp countersink bit to the end and turn it by hand.  I just thought I'd ask around and see if someone had some really slick, "almost zero energy" way of doing this...you know, for a guy that wants to work on his gun from his recliner....haha!!  I'll git R' done and report back!

Just thought I'd mention.  The B40 is a really nice piece of work.  There's a few little bugs, but most guns have a couple things that can use a little help, yes even the really expensive Euro guns and I've owned quite a few.  The Chinese are really bringing it to the game these days, the B40 has bluing close to the same league as my HW's....Europe should be worried:)  I did a light polishing of the trigger levers and a good adjustment and the trigger is super nice.  I gave the tophat a dab of moly and the spring a light coat of tar and there is no spring twang or vibration.  That's all I've done besides mounting a scope and shooting it.  I've barely got 200 shots down the tube and it's grouping pretty well, I think if I solve the tight breach that may improve as I suspect inserting the pellets is distorting them a bit.  I'm fairly handy, but the work I've done so far was really simple and really not required.  I give the B40 two thumbs up, and Mike Melick and Best Airguns a couple thumbs as well...great service everytime!

LOL.  I did do mine sitting in a chair!  It took about 15 minutes using a small tube of wet dry  paper.

Mike has done great with the B40 he sold me and it is one of the finest rifles  I have, and I made  a stock for it out of curley maple and purple  heart trim . It has the ability to put one round after in the same hole and after 5 rds. the hole is not much bigger than when the first rd. went through it. Here is my B40, Howie

Hope you git the thing fixed to your liking....if you need a fix of energy come visit....you can also lose some weight if you want, just step outside and freeze your butt off,,,,,0F today in the shop....round any edges off with some 600 grit. make the pellet slide into the barrel when it's fired, should give you around 2% dev. if done right and the cylinder and seal are good....
