I think they went to that policy even when they sold the Air Venturi rams. Who knows why? More money? Somebody screwed up an installation and then raised h3ll with PA? I'm not the world's biggest PA fan, anyway, but they should sell the ram as a separate option. Might also be a deal with Crosman, come to think of it. Make you have to buy a Crosman gun?

Probably has to do with liability, warranty and money. If you install it yourself, and have an issue, some people will try to  blame the Nitro Piston as being faulty even if they messed up the installation somehow. Most manufacturers will void the warranty on a gun if it's disassembled, unless it's done by a qualified authorized repair center. Even though quite a few airgunners are very knowledgeable and could do the install them selves, they still want a service center to do it.  That forces you to pay them for the install, helping to generate more money, or buy a rifle with a nitro piston already installed(again more guns sales and more money).

OK. Say I want PA to install a ram in my CFX Royal. That void my GamoUSA warranty? Is PA authorized by the various manufacturers to do warranty work on their guns?

Red,
According to what I've read that was on PA's website, yes, their 'gun smith' is Gamo certified to do the gas ram swaps and the gun still keeps the Gamo warrentee.

It may be that Gamo may have something to do with PA not selling just the ram kit, if Gamo got tied up with customers who contacted them looking for help ????

All though, after having installed one of their air venturi gas rams, I think it's more likely PA got tired of answering the do-it-yourselfer questions about how to install one correctly. The gas ram doesn't come with much info on how to install it. Or, what parts to use and what parts to leave out.

I emailed PA recently inquiring about sending my new Whisper to them for an after-market gas ram install, but they replied that's not a service they perform and referred me to information on tuners.  I contacted one tuner who was unsure whether a Theoben gas ram could be installed in a Whisper.  Can anyone here enlighten me as to whether a gas ram can be installed in a Whisper after-market, what type of gas ram will fit, who can do it, etc. I would prefer to send it to someone with experience rather than try it myself.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Theoben does not make a gas ram for the Whisper.  They make only gas rams for the Shadow 1000, CFX and Hunter.  Go to http://www.airgunwerks.com for a list of all guns Theoben makes a ram for.

This is an interesting thread.....maybe someday I'll attempt to install a gas-ram into one of my air rifles just to see how they work. When they are more availiable and less expensive (?).

Hey LongIslandArcher.....I thought most Gamos are practically the same (Especially their powerplants).....I would've thought the Theoben ram would fit the Whisper and Shadow 1000. What do I know anyways.... heh heh.
