I have a 40 MM lens and when I mounted it on the rifle the front lens housing just rests on the top of the action. Its sighted in and dead accurate but will this be okay?

Usually it will not cause a problem but if anything is touching and moves when you shoot, it will eventually scuff and scratch the contact points. I would suggest trying to get a higher scope mount or rings depending on our mounting situation. If that cannot be helped, you might see if you can put a thin piece of foam between the two to keep them from making direct contact?

Depends on what kind of gun. If it's a PCP then it may cause a problem in accuracy because there there may be a little expansion of the tube under pressure.. With a springer, it may cause the recticles to loosen because of the shock and vibration. You may want to consider putting a couple of pieces of 35mm neg film shims on the lower ring  blocks of the mount to raise it up a few thousandths.

Thanks for the info. I had some black tape handy and put down 2 layers on the saddles and now theres a little sliver of light between the housing and the rifle. Do i need to use the negetive strips or can i use what I've done?

That may work but you may need to tighten it a couple of times. The tape may allow the scope to move. The negatives will not compress as much. But if the tape works....and ifn' it ain't broke...don't fix it... :)  :)  :)

Try a one piece high mount, it fixed my problem.
