Is Eun Jin Sumatra Carbine worth $399.00?
« on: February 02, 2010, 07:55:39 AM »
Saw the Sumatra Carbine in .22 cal on P.A. for 399 this morning. That's a hundred bucks less than anywhere else I've seen it. I was wondering if anyone has this particular gun and could you give me the low down on it. I like the light weight and lever action on this model. Bet it would look good with one of those leapers 3-12X44 mini swat scopes on it. Tell me what you think guys and thanks in advance for your input to this first time poster.

Welcome Larry, glad to have you aboard!!!!

I do not own the gun but there isquite a bit of chatter on the forum about it. It's a hard hitting and accurate gun from what I've read here. It's a solid wood and metal gun, no plastic. Some say it's ugly and others say too heavy. Basically comes down to a personal preference as with many AGs.

Try doing a search of the forums for Eun Jin Sumatra in all forums for all dates and read some of the opinions posted. And if you decide to buy from PA, be sure to use discount code winter2009 to get an additional 10% off. I checked it yesterday and the code was still working. Again, welcome to GTA Forums and Happy Shooting!!!!

Thanks Dave,

I've noticed a lot of nice folks on this site that are more than willing to give good advice and help to newbies and vets.  I've always enjoyed hunting and grew up in Florida where squirrels were abundant and free roaming in most hammocks.  Sadly, it's illegal to hunt game with an air gun in FL.  Hopefully they will change that law with the advent of more powerful air guns on the market and increased interest in the sport of air gun hunting.

I'm somewhat seasoned in the springer variety of air guns, but an absolute newb to the PCP genre.  Have a .22 Disco coming to my doorstep tomorrow.  I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas.  Every time I hear something that even sounds remotely like a UPS truck, I run to the front door.  I'll be sure to let you guys know how it fits.

Thanks again, Larry

Larry, a big welcome to the GTA forum and family.  I don't own any Korean airguns or a Sumatra so I can't help you there.  I believe Kiwi have Korean air rifles....maybe the Career AR6 or something like that....at one time he had 3 of them.  Maybe he'll chime in later.  I believe if I remember correctly...that the double action of those Korean air rifles are really heavy....maybe in the 12lb. range!!!!  So cocking the hammer (Single action) before squeezing the trigger (3 to 4lbs.) is more beneficial.

I don't own a Sumatra, but I have seen what it can do, and I love it. Hard hitting, loud, wood and metal, its an all around great hunting gun. Not as powerful as a condor, but I like the looks a lot more.

I'm torn between three PCPs at the moment, Gerald, the Marauder, the Sumatra 2500 Carbine, and the Evanix Renegade Carbine.  I love to hunt, so the two carbine models are very appealing, but I also like to shoot on my outdoor range in the back yard.  I have a distance of 25 yards but the neighbors are right on top of me.  My next door neighbor is a policeman and he doesn't mind me shooting outback with my RWS 48.  As a matter of fact, he has stood on his deck and watched me shoot.  I'm afraid a Sumatra or a Renegade will end his tolerance of my unyielding addiction...(hands shaking as I type...trigger finger itching like it has athletes foot).  Still, I love to hunt and that light, compact feature of a carbine is very tempting.  I'm going to research a little more and make a decision soon.  Odds are I will end up with all three....(sigh)...nothing for the 401k this month.

Well Matt, I've been out back zeroing that Discovery and loving every minute of it.  The neighbors starting getting home a while ago, so I had to stop shooting.  That little gun has quite a report.  I'll probably invest in a TKO brake soon to help with that.  It began stacking pellets around the tenth shot.  I was mildly surprised at the amount of shots I got with a fill.  I'm still getting used to the gauge and making mental notes as to where the needle is when the shots drop off.  I don't have a chrony, but I'm looking to get an inexpensive one soon so I can find that maximum accurate sweet spot.  Mine had a pretty bad ding in the stock where the pump came out of the styrofoam packing and nicked it.  I called Crosman and they have a new stock on the way.  Didn't have to relinquish my gun or anything.  Great service from those folks.

Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to getting to know guys as we all spin into the vortex known as "Precharged Pneumatics.

Airgun hunting illegal in FL?
« Reply #9 on: February 03, 2010, 09:20:07 AM »
Wow are you 100% sure?  Not even small-game?  We have a few people that hunt in Florida with airguns.   So if airgun hunting "game" is illegal, you can then hunt non-protected/non-game species (like the invasive species - iguanas, Starlings, etc.) with airguns, right?

Hey do you guys remember Brent/CFX Marauder and his backyard squirrel videos?  He was from Florida.  I wonder if he got arrested :)  Anyone seen Brent or heard from him?  I liked his videos.  He had the camera mounted on his guns.

Haven't heard from him in a long time. I sent him a PM and it sat in my outbox for 3 months or so. I think I ended up deleting it.

Since you live in GA now, you can hunt small game with .22 cal or smaller airguns. What part of the Atlanta area do you live in?
BTW, the Korean PCPs are very nice. I have a Sam Yang 909 .45 caliber.

Jeremy,

I live in the west metro part of Atlanta, the Hiram/Dallas area to be exact.  Still quite a bit of open land here to hunt such as Paulding Forest and Shefield Wildlife Management Area.  I prefer to go out into open hardwoods as opposed to sniping them off bird feeders and fences...although I have been known to take one down when the occasion presents itself...hehe.
