Benjamin Super Streak muzzle brake
« on: February 04, 2010, 06:53:06 AM »

Got my new .22 barrel in for my Benji SS. It's a bare bones barrel and breech block. (say that 3X fast...LOL) I had to order all of the attaching partsto have a complete barrel for a one bolt drop-in replacement. Everything was available and cheap, except for some reason, they did not have the muzzle break. Listed as onlya $2.20 item no less. I was told there were no outstanding ordersfor anybut they COULD order it for me. It would be like the barrel and take months to get (took 2 months for the barrel), probably on a slow boat from China. So, now I'm contacting all of the listed Crosman authorized service centers to see if one by chance has a muzzle brake cuvee-holed somewhere they would sell. I've also ordered a Beeman universal ported brake from Airgun Warehouse that went backorder for 1-2 weeks.PA says for the Beeman ported muzzle brakes their arrival isexpected on income tax day. WHAT'S up with muzzle brakes?????

Anyway, if I have to, I will remove the brake from my .177 barrel to install ontomy new .22 barrel. I noticed it has one set screw and removing it does nothing as far as loosening it. I'm guessing this one is gluedwith something (like gorilla glue) to keep it in place. First off, does anyone haveone they would part with? Secondly, has anyone removed one of these and how did you do it. I have a heat gun and assume I should carefully and slowly heat the barrel and the muzzle brake to soften the glue to remove it. ButI'd like to hear from someone that has actually done thisto prevent me from demolishing mine.It looks like I need to keep it to reuse.

Thanks ahead of time and Happy Shooting!!!!

Dave

Hey Dave, you might try to contact forum member joeblow. He's probably done more things to the SuperStreak than anybody including dealing with the muzzle break.I'm sure he'll give you the front page.Good luck to you.

you're correct in assuming that its glued on . it is . take a piece of wood and drill a hole in it i think it is about 1 in dia . then split the block heat the brake nice and hot put the blocks in a vise clamp down on the brake and turn back and forth with a wrench on the breech block and work the brake off thats it!

no sorry i'm using it now polished the od. and left the flutes black and 3d machined a nice little dovetailed insert out of stainless to replace the hooded front sight . the end cap unscrews and the hooded sight slides off.

Darn....was hoping you had replaced it with an aftermarket one and would sell me your old one. Bet that looks good modded up to match the nickel barrel. Shoot a pic and post it, would like to see it. I have oneBenjamin service center contacting Crosman to see if they can dig out an SS that has been returned for a warranty swap to see if they can steal the muzzle break off of it. Even if they don't have one, THAT to me is going above and beyond for customer service.

Thanks for the tip on unscrewing the tip. I was wondering about the wooden block and the 1" hole and slit to fit over the brake. Knew I would have to remove the front sight but hadn't had time to look into it yet. Saved me some time, thanks!!!!

i have a .22 ss on the way to me as we speak it has an aftermarket muzzle brake on . not quite sure of the condition of it though pics were kinda fuzzy on that shot. i was going to just take it off anyways. going to make a nice fluted alum and delrin shroud for it. i'll post some pics if you want it you can have it. project gun going to go all out on this one. spme good power mods and some cosmetic. and of course the grt 111.

I'll gladly take it. I'll need something to protect my crown. You might want to build at least two of those fluted jobs.

I know someone that may be interested in one or two. LOL

Thanks,

Dave

Question for JoeBlow
« Reply #9 on: February 06, 2010, 09:02:46 PM »
Can you tell me if the new BS Trail NP XL gas ram would fit in a Super Streak?

If no, are there any gas rams that would fit the Super Streak and still maintain the same power as the spring?

Thanks.

Last week I asked Kim @ Crosman if she had a parts breakdown of the Trailand she said not yet. I told her I wanted to compare part numbers and see if it took the same receiver, piston and trigger group as the SS. I would be VERY interested in getting a ram and shrouded barrel to replace on my SS if they fit. It sould make it a smoother and more quiet shooter as well as theoretically more accurate without the spring torgue.

There's several gas springs available from different companies, I've researched them while I was debating modding my PL1K. Check these out.

As soon as I can get the part numbers for the Trail NP I'llpost what I find out. But I'm thinking the parts will interchange.

Swapped out the barrels today. Have all parts but muzzle break so the Benji SS looks a little funny. And shorter too.

It was still a little cold outside but I couldn't fight the urge to put a few rounds through it. Set my backstop up at the usual 25 yards with some Shoot-N-C targets. Took about 4-5 shots to walk it in. I haven't moved the scope from the dead-on .177 barrel but I expected some adjusting due to ballistics differences. Surprisingly, the elevation was perfect but windage was off about 4". Got er' cranked in and stacked a few rounds before retiring back to the warmth of my man cave. I didn't have time today but will set up the chrony on my FIRST chance. I REALLY want to know what numbers the .22 barrel will make with CPHP ammo.

Aaron, let me know about the muzzle break whenever....I'll gladly pay you for it or at least postage. Now for my next project, building resettable field targets. I bought all the materials today and printed out my patterns. Will hopefully start them one evening this week and will post pictures of the progress.

Happy Shooting!!!!
