I have been needing a tach for some time.  I found an older one on e-bay last week that I was able to get for less than $40.  
Today was the first time I have had a chance to get outside during daylight and it seems to work just fine.  Its not as fancy as the newer more costly models but it seems to work just fine.  BTW, my home tuned .177 cal Fast Deer shoots at 585 fps using normal weight lead pellets.

Sweet!  It's always fun to do something that works at half price!  I've got a fast deer I'm getting ready to tune-up.  Is that about the right velocity to expect?

(Love the kitchen range, btw.  Most people don't have that luxury!)

I think that if you replace the spring with one from a South Summit kit, you may do a little better on the velocity.  I haven't replaced mine as yet. Also, I kept the leather seal.   My Fast Deer really likes JSB Exacts.  It is so comfortable to shoot - I just love it for plinking.

Seems that spring kit from South Summit is useful for almost anything!  I have one and may give it a try when it's time to tear into the fast deer.  Thanks for the info and good luck with that chrony!

I used the spring from the QF-2 kit when I tuned up my .177 Fast Deer and it did in fact give it more "zip"  :)

I stayed with the leather seal as well, just reconditioned it before I put it back in.  

The Fast Deers are nice shooters.  I got mine when Best Airgun was selling off their stock, wish I had bought 2....

I did pick up a .22 cal Fast Deer also used from Mike Melick and it's a sweet shooter as well...
