Scope Problems on my Titan
« on: February 07, 2010, 04:02:53 AM »
Well it isn't the scope it is trying to get it to hold!  It has already broken the scope stop!  I kept thinking that the gun wasn't accurate but it was movement in the scope that is causing the issues.

Is there a mount you guys would suggest?  I've got one piece mounts on some of my rifles that seem to work pretty well, but this one has a lot of kick to it.  I'd just like to buy one set of mounts and not have to keep trying them all out.

The TF 89 is doing just fine with my Gamo 3 x 9 scope with one piece mount.  It hasn't budged bit.

I looked at my other scope slider my 350.  It hasn't moved since I used the Leapers one piece mount, so I ordered one to try.  I also ordered some domed pellets in .177.  I've never used domed pellets before in that caliber.

Just the other day I bought some RWS domed pellets for my 350 and 89 to try.  Right now the 350 is sighted in with Predators for the great anti-possum crusade.

I am not sure if the Titan has a hole for stop pin, but a good brand name one-piece mount with a hardened stop pin should work for you.  The more screws to clamp it on the better! Four screws at least on a Titan!
If you haven't already done a tune job, they usually help with the vibration and that will help your scope last longer and not move.
I use blue locktite on my mounts and it seems to help.  Locktite it and let is set over night before shooting.

I've already taken it apart and lubricated it.  It is getting more smooth.  I wished it had the cocking arm like the 89 does.

Randy,,, if you're looking for a one piece scope mount that will hold like a rock then get yourself a BKL one piece mount.  I'm not sure if they still make the 6 screw model but if they do get it and you'll never have a problem again on that rifle.  The BKL is a bit pricey compared to the Accushot mounts but if you've got a problem getting a mount to hold then the BKL will solve your problems.  I have one on a GAMO shadow and the mount is simply amazing.  I really don't need it on the Shadow but the rifle is shooting so accurately that I don't want to start swapping mounts right now.

Hi Randy, the first step I would take is wipe down the scope rail and one piece mount with denatured alcohol and let it dry. I use two types of mounts, the Accushot one piece and the Ebay five bolt pattern one piece mount. The hold very well......Bill

The mounts I use by choice now are Hawke. I use an adjustable 11mm to Weaver converter and then Weaver mounts. I can get you a price on the combo if you are interested. These together are less than a good one-piece adjustable mount by about half, and if you have any issues with barrel droop, it can overcome them. The adjustable mount lets you zero the scope vertically without using the turrets.
THE GUNS:
â€¢ Cometa Fusion Star (Gene tuned) 12/10/09
     â€¢ Cometa Fenix RWS 94 2/8/10
     â€¢ RWS Diana 48 .177 1/8/10 [TRADE for RWS 350]
     â€¢ Walther Force 1000 .177 11/11/09
     â€¢ TF89 .22 10/26/09 (Gene tuned 1/6/10)
     â€¢ TF89 .177 (Gene tuned) 9/6/09
     â€¢ Remington Vantage 1200 .177 8/22/09 (Gene tuned 1/6/10)
     â€¢ Daisy 953 (pneumatic) 8/02/08
â€¢ Gamo Big Cat 2/5/10 (broken...free...maybe gas piston?!)

THE SCOPES:
     â€¢ Sightron SII 4-16x42 AO
     â€¢ Leupold VX-II 3-9x33 Ultralight EFR AO
     â€¢ Bushnell Trophy 6-18x42 AO
     â€¢ Swift 686 High Recoil 6.5-20x44 AO
â€¢ Hawke Air Max 4-12x40 AO
     â€¢ Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 AO

Tom Gaylord just did a review of the BKL 260 mount on his blog.  Bottom Line - No movement after around 500 shots with a Hammerli Razor.  (Is the Razor another AR1000 model, same as Titan and TF89?)  Tom says the BKL mounts are back in production now and available.

The blog post is here:  http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2010/02/bkl-rings-part-2.html

My Titan has been down for a couple of weeks now.  After I did my lube tune, I left too much on it and blew the seal.  I ordered a TF 89 seal from Compasseco. Their tech guy said he had it which was a mistruth.  I've been waiting on it forever then called them.  First they said it was shipped, then I got someone else and they said it was shipped to THEM.  I could have just ordered it from Umarex which is what I should have done, it is the same price.

I moved the scope over to my Air Hawk.  The only scope I have left is a Simmons 3 x 9 which I'm pretty sure the Titan will destroy.  I'll just shoot it without the scope for awhile or move one of my 4 x scopes over to it.  I have the one that came with it on my Daisy right now.

I've been waiting for almost three weeks for the replacement seal for the Titan.  In the meantime I've bought a scope from a forum mate and a new four bolt one piece mount.  Just got the mount today, but still waiting on the scope and it will probably be another week on my seal.

Yeah that scope stop is lame.  Mine actually sheered the bolts on it!  It would be better if you just had a hole type scope stop on it.
