Bending my barrel!
« on: February 08, 2010, 05:38:19 AM »
I have never tried this and just can not muster the guts to belt the barrel with a 2x4 so going this route  http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/library/Charlies%20Barrel%20Tool.pdf
I have two guns I would like to tweak and have scope adjustment more in mid adjustment instead of on the tail end of the thread, one is a Diana 34 I know ya'll will say just put a droop mount but I already have a utg non droop mount i would like to use:)
I imagine if I tighten down say 1/4" it will likely spring back some, 2/3rds?  Taking any advise at this point, due to the fact it worries me to bend a barrel and want to report back with having had fun making a new Charlie gadget and total success! Tony.

I had one of my crosman bear trapped and bend the barrel. What I did was use a scrap 2x6 then cut 2 pieces block out of it the  bolted it on just snag fit on my barrel breech then sandwich it and bended it slowly. I keep checking it by placing it on top of my glass counter and once the barrel is parallel with the glass that's it. Just make sure the breech top is flat on the glass or you can use a long straight edge to check if it's straight enough. That airgun now is one of my goto for pest control.

When you've got the barrel under tension, take a copper or brass hammer and give it a few taps here & there to release the stress in the metal.  Make sure to focus the blows on the outter portion of the curve. Also make sure to bend in small incriments, relax and bend again.
