yes pa did do the ram install and this seal looks to have not blown but something got in there and was crushed into it. I was looking down thru it and noticed the transfer port is large enough for debre to get thru so maybe a piece of a pellet got thru there some how or a piece of shaving from machining the gun was left. I would think that when pulling the spring out during the install at pa something got in there. I have order everything I need all breech seals and piston seals so I will make this go away.

Good luck. You're going to have a serious shooter there when all is right again.

That's usually what you see if the is lube getting in front of the piston. It is also what you quite often see when people add chamber oil in through the port... or any kind of oil. For those of you that suggerst using chamber oil or use it, this is what you can expect, along with canted, broken of fatigued springs.

I did see what appeared to be oil on just about every component that came out of there but what I did not see is any grease of any kind on anything and the seal has flat spot on the sides. I did lend my father the gun for some time for some tree rat control and the breech was very difficult to open he may have sprayed it with something with hopes of making it easier as for me I did read enough on this gun to know that oil was a big no no.

Well, if he is like a lot of Harry Homeowners, it quite possibly could have been good old WD-40. You can almost start a car with that stuff. Of course, it would have that tell-tale smell, too.

OK, Charlie. I'm convinced. No chamber oil for me. :)

looking for advice I have completed deburred the tube very nicely and feel very good that a seal should slid home with no problem, should I hone the inside and polish I own a very nice honing set the would fit perfectly and polishing wheel that would do the trick.

If your dad was unfamiliar with how the breach block opens up, he may have tried to open it up before cocking it, and he strong-armed it to get it to open.  And he may have sprayed lubricant in there to "loosen" it up if he thought it was binding up.

who knows old people do funny things, oops did i say that. i have found alot of very useful info here the thing i need to know the most is how smooth should i make the cylinder wall should i polish to a mirror or should i stop at 400 or 600 grit after reading charlies guide in the library with other guns he mentioned at the honing stages something like" Unlike a gun with synthetic seals, you want as smoothly polished sealing surface as possible" so is my seal synthetic i'm new as you can tell but very mechanicly inclined and well up to the job strive for perfection.
