Can't decide
« on: February 19, 2010, 10:25:00 AM »
There are these little brown birds that are nesting in my barn and damageing the boards. I knock their nests down but they rebuild them. Should i let the storm xt loose or should i just try to eliminate them some other way. They are not a game bird so what do you guys think i should do.

In my state(Indiana)property damage=game on,I know all my local conservation officers(small town, county seat)I`ve never had a problem, but  if  I didn`t know them I think I`d snap some pics first,or call`em,most of them are really helpfull.....just my opinion. :emoticon:

Probably house wrens.  They are very persistent.  They fly right into my house many times whenever the door is cracked a little, and sometimes only for a minute while we bring in groceries.  It's like the watch the door for an opportunity.  It's amazing.  They must have an urge to nest indoors somewhere.  Anyway they nest under the porch even though Starlings and Grackles have damaged their nests and even killed their young.  The pair still hangs around and have 2 nests (always 2 or 3 - they have backup nests) in between the floor board of the porch (which is on the 2nd floor) and like a 4x8" supporting beam.  There is like a 2.5" gap and that's where I usually find their nests but I leave them alone.  They 're a good looking bird and sing sometimes in the spring/summer.

Maybe find out how they are entering the barn and seal the opening so they can't get back in?
