Made a sweet B26 trigger today
« on: February 22, 2010, 07:01:32 AM »
As many of you know, the B26 has a very nice trigger out of the box and with some polishing, lube and adjustment, it gets even nicer. Today, I decided I wanted a true two stage feel with a setback. With a little machining and fitting, I have it! This is adjustable for a very nice second stage now and overtravel. My B26 has the best trigger I've ever felt now! I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but I would guess the first stage is a few ounces to the pronounced second stage and a perfectly crisp let off at about 6 ounces. It's adjustable for even less than that! I think I hit the nail on the head this time and got lucky! As you can see in the pics, it now has about a 3/8" set back from stock and I had to turn the trigger tension spring screw head down so the trigger would set back.

Ralph,  I'm curious about the trigger.   You said you made the trigger.   Do you mean you actually fashioned a trigger from metal that was not formerly a trigger?   Or did you take an existing trigger that was handy and modified it to work as you intended?   Just curious.   Either way  is a heck of a lot more than I could do but if you fashioned a trigger from basically a blank piece of metal, thats something else.  Guess the main reason for asking is the 2 trigger blades side by side.    Anyway it all looks professional.   A real nice job.

Thanks Howie. To answer your question Mike, yes. I started with a piece of 1/4" thick crs, measured the trigger pin diameter and drilled a hole to jig the original trigger on top of the crs plate. I gave it a coat of lay out fluid and traced all but the original blade and then set back the blade about 3/8". I milled it out and then fit it to the trigger group. I marked where I wanted the first stage bump to catch on the sear lever and tapped a hole for the second stage 'bump' for my set screw. I then marked where I wanted my over travel screw to ride and gave it a rub down with 320 grit and polish. I darkened it with a torch, installed it and fell in love.

People call machining a trade or craft, but I think it is actually an art. It is sculpture at its highest form. snookman

Was it a drop in or did you have to fit it? Could it be made as an after market upgrade?TIA
