we have a problem
« on: February 22, 2010, 09:01:55 AM »
just started the reassembly of my cfx and started to install rotary used silicone and started to slowly push it down the tube then she just went straight to the bottom. it is in but very loose and I ordered the exact number from mc master Carr from charlies guide. it will rotate with little force so little that I would have to believe that it would leak for sure. so should I go with thicker diameter seal or will this magically tighten up.

i went ahead and reassembled the gun and shot a few times it does not blow off a tissue but it does appear to lift it a little so there is some appearent leakage as well as the sign of moly started to appear around the back edge of the openning at the rottary plus it is so loose it feels like it could just open by leaning the rifle to the side.

Question: how does the rotary breach get removed?  I had my CFC royal disassembled the other night for a deburr, piston seal and Air Venturi gas ram, but I didn't see how the rotary breach comes out.  I want to take that and examine it to see if I should upgrade the seal.

rotate the rotary half open and pry the black thumb lever up with small blade screw driver be carful of small metal piece on side that retains it in you will see it don't lose and the rotary will then push back towards the piston and on out the tube.

you have two options.....
1 - go to a 2mm section...."17mm x 2mm"
2 -  go to a bigger dia...A 17mm is smaller than the breech
so as it stretchs over the section size reduces...

the numbers a very close in fact lands right between the original 1.5 mm and the 2 mm I do believe the 2 mm will make very tight and most likely could have went with the 1/16 and been fine but I ordered 2 mm so hope it works and I have a good idea how I got in this jam. should have stayed away from the honing and just polished ,honing would be good for breake barrel but guns like the cfx with the rotary there you strip away any metal to close to the openning where the seal rides and you are now looking at a larger seal. the tubes of these guns are not as hard of steel as break cylinders and piston cylinders on automobiles so the metal strips away quick now my new piston seal fit great and definitely did not have any play at all.  thanks for the info I do greatly appreciate the help.

Just go to Lowe's and buy the #12 o-rings in the plumbing section.  I did the conversion from Kiwi's post.  I believe they are 13/16 x 3/32 and comes in packs of 10.

There have been changes made to the breech and o'ring since the very first one was made. Even with the correct size o'ring it is a hit and miss operation. You never know if you got the breech installed with a new o'ring without damaging it until you put the gun back to gether and test it. With my busy schedule I do not have the time to tear a gun down several times to make sure it is right. So I have opted not to tune the CFX guns.  JMO
