DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —  Police say two Florida teenagers are facing charges after 911 dispatchers heard them talking about breaking into cars when one teen's cell phone accidentally called 911 during the heist.

Daytona Beach police say 19-year-old Stefanie Vargas and a 13-year-old are charged with burglary to a conveyance.

Police spokesman Jimmie Flynt says dispatchers listened as the pair discussed what was worth taking while rummaging though a vehicle parked near a Daytona Beach nightclub early Sunday.

Officers went to the area and spotted the 13-year-old inside a vehicle. A police report says the teen tried to flee in a sport utility vehicle driven by Vargas. The report says both admitted to the robbery.

It's unclear how the number got dialed.

Back in the 70's around here, on a hot Saturday night, a guy waked into "mom & pop" corner store about 10;00 PM, wearing NOTHING but a "T" shirt. He was holding a pocket knife, and demanded their money. "Pop" knew this guy was loaded, who knows on what - and told him to take a hike. - The guy said give him the cash - or he was "gonna cal the cops". Pop gave this fool the change to call them - and he did!!!  - End of his weekend, ...

Ha, ha! We had a guy here in DC who robbed a bank wearing a stocking over his head and a T-shirt for a local baseball team with his picture and first name on the front. But my favorite DC robber was one who stuffed a couple wrapped wads of bills into the front of his pants and got about a block when the red dye packet went off , burning him in a certain private area. He actually said he was going to sue the bank for pain and suffering.

Many criminals want to be caught !

Even the best of them start to make mistakes on purpose, to be closer to the police ?

Some even contact the police, asking questions that only the perpetrator would know ?

When involved in an investigation, or just a street cop, it is good to suspect everyone, you are seldom disappointed ! And sometimes rewarded :o

I read about a dumb crook in Italy who was just like that. He walked away from a work release program but left his cell phone. The police called, saying only that they had found a phone and told him where to go to pick it up. He arrived at the police station, riding a stolen motor scooter.  :)
