HW-80 .20 cal??!!??
« on: February 24, 2010, 07:15:49 AM »

Wondering what the general concencious on this rifle is. Here latey I've decided to get another high end springer and wait until the summer time to purchase a QB CO2 shooter. I was set on a .22 cal because I thought .177 would be a waste of power, and I don't really plan to shoot much further than 50 yards for long range type paper punching. But my good friend told me that since I have the RX-2, and that they are so similar, I might look into something else,......hinting perhaps at the "dark side"!!!!! That'll happen eventually, but springers are my main interest as a "self contained" unit. So I got to thinking about the .20 caliber model. Hmmmm, I 've never had a .20 cal rifle, and I know that the ammo is some what limited. But if the HW is like my RX-2 in being able to shoot just about any pellet, that wouldn't seem to be a big concern!!!! So what do you .20 cal HW-80/R1 enthusiast have to say about this particular model?!?!?!?! Thanks in advance!!! Thomas

Do it i have a theoben crow mag in 20 it shoots so flat that you just point and shoot without any guess work.I have an R1 in 22 but would trade it for a 20 no i would buy a 20 instead. All  the best pellets come in 20 beeman/h@n,crossman,Most guns shoot them accurate.I use h@n and jsbs in mine .go for it.
My babies, Paul Watts tuned Beeman R1 22 cal,Rob Hawkins tuned R1 177cal San Rafael,Rob Hawkins tuned R11,David Slade tuned theoben crow mag 20 cal,  benji pump  177 ca     Rob Hawkins tuned Beeman hw 77 177  RWS 54 177 cal Benjamin trai xl 22 cal,UK.Webley Tomahawk 22 cal deluxe.

I too I'm a big fan of the .20cal, the HW80 would be a nice rifls in this cal, my friend has one and his shoots FTS's at 835fps. I'll tell ya what I did I took a TF89 I had in .177cal that didn't shoot all that straight it aved 1034fps and sent it to a buddy of mine who put a 14'' lothar walther barrel and shroud on it for me in .20cal and it shoots over 800fps lube tuned only. I'm in the process of getting ready to put all custom parts in it guide, tophat spring, seal and I've already honed and debured everything and did a trigger job on it I'll roughly have 350$ in the gun when I'm done with it less my labor and scope and mount,no it isant an HW or RWS but I dont have a ton of money in it and it'll shoot just as good or better than those guns and doesn't weigh as much and its all customized way better than a factory rifle, just something else you might want to concider. .20cal is fun to shoot but ammo is expensive so I've tried to keep the cost down on this gun so it dont hurt so bad when I shoot it, But I'am building 2 in .20cal.

I have had an R10 in .20 caliber for 22 years. Now i want an R1 or an HW-80 in .20 caliber. I have four rifles in .20 caliber and I wouldn't part with any of them. Go for it.

I had a R9 in .20  ( sold it...) and a .20 R7. (sold that one too...) I now have a R7 in .177 and a R1 in .177. I personally think that the .22 is a better choice for hunting and the .177 is better at flying straight and far... But i do miss the R7 in .20... it was a hammer within 30 yards... And to anyone who thinks the R1 is wasted in a .177, swing by the range and watch as it tears up cans at 100 yards offhand... it is so flat that the pellet never leaves the killzone of 1/2 inch above or below the line of sight till pass 55 yards... is like a laser...

Daggum it Luke!!...I mean Gabe,...you're killing me bro'. LOL's - had a laser experience with my .22 B-28A this wekend. Just the righht light shooting at a pine tree at a healthy 100 yrds. - followed the jsb 15.9 all the way. Low by only a few inches, But  It was way cool!!  Wish I had the space to practice that more often. No offence to the .177 fans of this rifle at all.  Just thought I'd give the "best of both worlds" caliber a 'shot'. HeHeHe Thanks for the thumbs up guys!! tjk
