Bird down, but no shot fired!
« on: February 25, 2010, 11:48:23 AM »
Got a bird today, but it wasn't by me.

Starlings were just starting to show up this morning, then they all disapeared. None even in the tree tops across the road.

Then I noticed the Doves, Sparrows, and all the other birds were all gone too. A few minutes later we saw this guy land on the bird bath outside my kitchen window. The Coopers Hawk hasn't been around in over a week, but it had a small finch, or bird that size, and was quickly ripping it apart.

No chance of any hunting the rest of the day because the snow realy started coming down shortly after.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow ?

Sorry the picture isn't clearer, it was snowing pretty good.

Matt,
I know what you mean.

I'm always amazed at how fast they can fly. They have the maneuverability of a Bat, or Barn swallow, but can do that at full speed in and around bushes and tree branches.

Dave,

We've got over a foot since this morning and it's suposed to keep going through the night. Weather man says we're due for two feet before it lets up tomorrow sometime.

Everything's was closed down around here today because they've declared a county wide emergancy. No driving what so ever except for emergencies. I'm on a state highway - it's after 10 pm and not even plow trucks have been through since early afternoon.

I dug a shooting lane out to the feeder this afternoon just in case any Starlings came back after the Coopers Hawk left. I just put on the yard light to check and it's all filled back in.

Hope they get the roads cleared so that big brown truck can get here !!!!!  :D
