Wouldn't you know it?
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:00:59 AM »
Well this morning I had to take my daughter to school.  It was cold!  I decided to dispose of what was left of the raccoon at a spot that I strongly suspect holds coyotes.  There is also the biggest flock of turkey buzzards I've ever seen that roost nearby so I know his carcass is going to be valued by something.

Almost as an afterthought I decided to grab a air gun to take with me.  I've learned my lesson about lugging the 350 around as it is HEAVY.  This time I just grabbed my Whisper and a tin of Crossman pointed pellets, put the carcass and Chip the Wonder Dog in the Durango and headed out for an early morning adventure.

We went over to the subdivision being built again.  Now in at least 10 trips I've seen nothing there but deer.  I went down near a large hickory tree that overlooks the river.  In some soft ground I left the remnants of the raccoon so I can see what is coming and going around it.  Chip the Wonder Dog wanted nothing to do with the breeze and 24 degree weather so elected to stay in the car.  I just got out for a few minutes and shot some pellets at some tin cans someone left behind.  Then the chill got to me a bit too.

I pondered driving the Durango down an old logging road, but thought about the tow bill when I got stuck. :D  Instead I drove up a new road that went along the top of the ridge.  Now in all of those times I've been here to hunt, I've never seen a squirrel here.  I've seen evidence of their existance, but I've never seen a live critter.

Now the hunting season ends in TWO days.  No more than when I turned the corner, there was a NUTTER on the road!  I got out of the car about a hundred yards away and started to stalk quietly.  He was in an isolated tree.  I've never seen a squirrel run down a tree to get away! He ran down and disappeared into some underbrush and I never got a shot at him.  Going on down the road there were FOUR MORE playing in some trees further down the hill and one was hidden barking at me from behind!

Not only that but I did find evidence of a coyote or fox in the soft dirt along the road.  So with two days of hunting left I finally find the buggers!  At least for the next couple of days I'll potentially have some fun.  ( I think Chip is still in the truck-he is not a lover of cold). :D

Well I didn't hunt last night and to be honest I didn't hear the dinger go off so it must be out of juice!  I missed out on some serious raccoon action last night too!  There were over 50 clips of critters on the game camera.  Here are a couple of interesting ones.  The first raccoon just looks HUGE!

yeah, that first raccoon looks huge! that sucks the dingdonger didnt go off, you can clearly see the light go on, so it must be the battery in the sensor inside

I'm going to look for a 9v power supply for it.  I have one in my guitar stuff.
