Chronograph the Whisper today
« on: February 26, 2010, 02:25:56 PM »
I bought a Gamo .22 cal Whisper with a gas ram from Pyramyd Air last fall. I have been busy with my Dark Side stuff to shot the Whisper until today.

I'll start with the lightest pellet I tested and work to the heaviest. All pellets were a ten shot string.

The wind was blowing at 20+ mph, so I didn’t even try at grouping any pellets.

First pellet tested was the Beeman Laser 13.3g. Making the first shot, I thought the trigger was  broken, it wouldn’t shoot. I looked at the safety, no, not engaged. So I tried again. Bang, it shot. I almost ran and hide.  :0  What a awful noise and it recoiled, on top of a hard trigger. It’s been a couple of years since I have had to shoot a unturned spring gun. Even at that, I haven’t been shooting my spring guns lately, the dark side has a hold me.:emoticon:

Average velocity for the Lasers was 773 fps or 17 ft lb.

Next heavier pellet is the RWS  14.2 Hollow Point. average velocity was 759 fps and 18 ft lb.

On down the ladder is the 14.3 Crosman Premier with an average velocity of 748.2 fps and 17.8ft lb.

Then the H&H Field Target 16.3g pellet at 683.9 fps average and a ft lb of 16.

Now for the  18.2g H&H Crow Magnum witch topped in for a average of 655 fps with 17 ft lb of energy.

The last pellet of the test was the 21.1g H&H Barracuda. The average velocity was 589 fps and packing 16 ft lbs of energy.

Anybody have any BenGay they could spare? I'll hold my shoulder up to the computer and you can squirt some on.  :p

That is a powerful rifle Glenn. Are you planing to install a GRT III trigger in your Whisper, I love mine. As for the typical Gamo harshness, it should smooth out some with a few hundred pellets. My gamo settled down nicely after about 500 or so. Good luck with it if you can stay away from the dark side long enough to get her broken in.  snookman

I’m not planning on tuning the Whisper. I have 3 s1k all tune with GRT triggers. I manly bought the Whisper just to see a gas ram gun.

I do like Gamo guns, so I’ll hold on to it. I had a RWS 350 in .22 cal, sold it and got a RWS 48 in .177 cal. I have owned a few Benjamins and  a lot of other pumps  over the years.

A couple of years ago the Dark Side hit me with a Talon SS in .177 cal. I was filling with a hand pump.

My New year resolution  was to get a scuba tank to fill with. Living half way to no where, I ended up buying a air compressor and a scuba tank.

After spending all that money, I figured I needed a good pea shooter. Last Wednesday I got a Air Arms S400. With all that I have tied up in the PCP hobby, I think I stay on the Dark Side for a while.

H***, I’m already thinking on what PCP to get next.

SOMEBODY HELP ME, I A SICK MAN :o

My whisper is hold sensitive also. I been shooting spring guns so long that it second nature to me at holding then light. Every now and then my 12 gauge does a number on me because I hold it like a spring gun.  :o
