Which pellet to use
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:02:36 PM »
Guys I'm planning on trying to take a raccoon tonight. I'm not sure which gun I'm going to use yet, it will either be the Discovery or the RWS 350 Pro Compact. I have CPHP's and Gamo Rockets ( the one with copper bb looking thing) in .22. Which pellet would you guys suggest? Last time I chronied the Discovery with CPHP's it was shooting about 830fps and the RWS was a little slower at around 760 fps. I'm thinking if I do get a shot it will be around 30 yards. What do ya all think?

Go with the CPHPs. Excellent, accurate pellet and you are going to want precise shot placement on a racoon.

Id stay away from the gamo rockets in any case other than shooting cans. Ive tested over 19 pellest now and pretty much all the Gamo pellets are useless past 15 yards compared to JSB pellets.  Just my experiance with a Gamo Big Cat and Hunter. I have not shot the cphp's.
Gamo Hunter gas piston GRT 3 leapers 3-9x40ao
Big Cat GRT 3 leapers tactedge
Diasy 120
RWS 350 mag PG2 leapers 4-16x50ao
Crossman 2200
Crossman 2250
Crossman 1377
Daisy 880
2 Chinese underlevers
2 European break barrels.

I would go with the cphp's i have taken dozens of raccoons with my disco and that pellet works great . It's accururate and it's hard consistancy gives it good penetration on the skull good luck

Never shot a coon with my disco. But i know crosmans premiers shoot great in mine. One more vote for CPHP's and the Disco.
