hand warmers and co2

i am going to ask this here because you guys probably use co2 in less than desirable conditons than others

when the co2 gets cold it affects performance
has anyone tried handwarmers to improve cold weather shooting?
i have heard they help and would like to hear from others

I think Shadow has experimented with CO2 and the cold weather, using some kind of portable warming system. He may chime in on your post and let you know what he did and how it worked out.

Sorry Ed, I only use the 850 .22 from indoors in the Fall & winter shooting through a window or door in order to keep it warm.

I had a very bad experience in Jan/Feb. of '08.  I was in the porch hiding from some crows that were walking towards the house on the snow about 32-33yds out.  I stayed in the unheated porch for a few min. before I could get a shot off.  Well it was in the high 20's out and the porch was not different.  My shot trajectory was so loopy and the POI so low, it wasn't funny.  I saw the pellet struck very low below the crow so I went back inside and chronied the gun.  It had gone from 610fps (w/14.3gr) down to 485fps!!  So I will never use it outdoors again.  I personally don't like carrying hand-warming thingies or other contraptions in the field.  I would suggest using another gun outdoors in cold weather.

yeah i use a pumper outside as it stays 60 dregrees or below 6 months or more a year in my area but would like to get a pcp just dont know which one yet leaning towards a condor
i know 1 guy who uses a modified 2240 during the cold times with handwarmers he said they work. i used them once for shoveling snow and these things get hot i thought my pockets were going to start a fire
no plans for cold co2 shooting just curious as to what methods people are using if any

I experimented with electric sock's on my QB78.177.   I wanted to hunt with the 78 during the winter when I lived out in South Dakota, brutal winters. I had a pair of old battery operated electric sock's and set one up to slid around the CO2 tube of the 78. The 78's tube stayed warm rapped in the warming sock and I hunted pigeons and bunnies in some below zero weather without a hitch. I planned on refining my homemade tube warmer and Gene and I chewed the fat about it, still got the socks but sold the 78. Ed

yeah i know about the south dakota winters thats where im from
electric socks and they worked, cool
