Got one!
« on: February 28, 2010, 03:51:54 AM »
The morning is starting off the way it should. One shot, on instant kill. I was up getting ready to make breakfast for the family when I noticed the starlings making runs at the feeders. I usually use one the Power Lines for yard sniping, but the way the Summit has been shooting Gamo Red Fire pellets lately I’ve been use that gun.  I watched this bird for awhile before I even attempted the shot. For good reason, he was really skittish and would stay on one feeder very long. He finally found one the held his interest for a few minutes so I got the gun and readied myself for the shot. He must have head the door open because when I got the barrel clear of the screen door he had moved off the feeder and looked like he was about to take off. I mentally told myself to take it slow, breath and squeeze sort thing. I found him in the scope, flipped the safety off and slowly put pressure on the trigger until it broke. I wasn’t able to hear the pellet smack because I was just inside the door way, but when I looked over the scope and saw him hanging upside down I figured that was a pretty good indication I hit him.

I watched a few minutes just to make sure he wasn’t one of these super tuff birds that was going to get his second wind and take off. After I felt like he was really dead I put the gun down and grabbed the camera to head out take some pictures. I was really surprised to find him still hanging up side down.

You 're on a roll Dave.  Love that pic hanging upside down :)

It's probably one of that new breed vampire Starlings that are hard to kill.  It will probably come back to life later.  Better cut off the head just to be sure, hehe  :D

Nice shooting!
