More of the same
« on: February 28, 2010, 11:57:46 AM »
Quick hunt with my son yielded me a few birds. Now you guys that might remember my boy is the one that pulled off the 72 yard head shot on a Starling last week. Today he couldn’t hit his you know what with both hands.  I was able to connect on a few, not so tough Starlings. The first one was shot at 40 yards, range finger confirmed. He flew off after the shot but crash landed about 30 yards away.  I went and retrieved him and on my way back to the truck a few more landed on an old electric fence. I was able to sneak to about 30 yards and took another shot. That bird had went down without a second thought. On closer inspection he took a CPHP right to the old bean pan. Now the sparrow was just a bonus and a lucky one at that. As we were leaving a flock of about 40 starlings landed in the middle of two feeders that were an honest 65 to 70 yards away. I thought I would just send one in to the middle of the flock and see what happened. At the shot they all flew off but there was something left flopping around on the ground. Imagine my surprise when I walked down there and found the little male house sparrow. He was the unlucky recipient of another CPHP, and again right in the bean pan.  All my birds were taken with my 350 Pro Compact. I’ve decided that RWS stands for Rendon’s War on Starlings.

I guess I should mention the boy did conect on one of the seriously strong Starlings finally. He hit it wih the Discovery and a Crow Mag, the bird lost alot of feathers but packed away the lead. Of course after he missed everything in sight it was probably only shooting around 500 fps when he made contact.

I've mastered shooting mine at targets; it is shooting at critters that be-devils me.....

I'd like to have some starlings to shoot at!  I'm going to go to Dollar Genera for some cheap cat food and start scattering it in my front yard.  I can use the Whisper from my daughter's window.
