Tune-up a la Peterdragin

Got some tune-up parts from Rich in Mich. After installation it became apparent that my gun had been sick for some time. She's all better now. Shoots a lot harder according to my previous backstop and my shoulder.

Sorry guys, I don't own a chrony and haven't gotten around to the whole digital camera thing yet. I can say however, Rich puts together a fine looking product that works well also.

Dookie, it would be nice if you could tell us  what model air gun you purchase parts for? And ya don't need a chrony to shoot straight either.. hehe

Thought I had replied to this earlier, but here goes, airgun was a Gamo Shadow Sport and you're right.

How many times have I witnessed an individual who was crippled at the gate because the batteries were dead in their chrony, rangefinder, etc...before they ever even unloaded their shooting iron.

Tune kit along with buttoned piston and new seal is starting to settle in. I can now consider myself a menace once again. Maybe that tough a$$ squirrel would like to give it another go.

The piston buttons, by the way, are "Jim's(Maccari) Old School Buttons". You glue them on your degreased piston using good quality superglue.

Six come in a package and it is recommended that you affix them to the foreward and rearward portions of your piston. You then sand down their profile until the piston just fits into the compression cylinder. I glued three to the rearward portion and saved the rest for another project. Work great and I don't have to worry about the piston scoring the cylinder.

For those who may be wondering, they stay on really well as long as the piston was CLEAN prior to gluing. I've had my gun apart several times since installing them (can't help myself; love to tinker) and have found no evidence that they will be coming off anytime soon.

Your doing real well with this air rifle stuff, did you have experience with this before coming to the GTA ?

I tore down my RWS model 34 and installed a JM tune kit back before I even knew about this forum. In fact Bob invited me to check this place out after ordering his trigger.

I've always been pretty handy with fixing things or at the least tearing stuff apart and figuring out how it works.

I will say that the info I have gathered here has advanced my knowledge quite a bit.

Unfortunately nothing here could help me get that RWS figured out. It was a remanufactured item purchased from Airgun Express, aparently the damaged bore got past QC. By the time I realized that it was not my technique or a tune issue I was without recourse. I finally found someone who felt it still held value and a deal was struck. I've never been happier to be rid of somthing. Well, there was this one girl I knew...

Thanks for the information on the buttons.  I was wondering how they worked after seeing them on JMs web site.  Looks like I will have to order some for my next "adventure in airguns"

You'll like 'em, just take your time to get everything really clean and when fitting them to the tube. I wrapped a strip of emery cloth around the piston and hand sanded them.

Good info on the buttons, thanks.  I've been thinking of doing this to the piston in my IZH 60, this was the last push I needed to hit the order button.  Ordered a new Merlin square spring for it too, as well as some new piston seals from EAA.  Will keep ya'll posted on the results.
