RWS 350 Magnum Pellet review
« on: March 04, 2010, 03:58:55 PM »
Okay, I took my Vortek-tuned 350 Magnum and put a bunch of pellets through it today - 5-shot strings from 10 ft into a 2x8 piece of Douglas Fir.  Here are the results:

Rated from 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest (unless otherwise noted)

Beeman Kodiak_____________5 stars (one ragged hole)
Beeman Silver Arrow_________2 stars (these didn't group well)
RWS Super H-Point__________4.5 stars (one ragged hole but the hole was slightly bigger than the Kodiak's hole)
RWS SuperPoint____________4 stars (clover leaf hole)
RWS Super Dome___________5 stars (one ragged hole)
Crosman Premier HP_________5 stars (one ragged hole)
Crosman Premier Domed______5 stars (one ragged hole)
Crosman Copperhead________5 stars (should give it 6 stars because it is literally one hole)
Predator PolyMag___________4 stars (clover leaf hole)
H&N Baracuda Match________4 stars (clover leaf hole)
H&N Hollow Point____________2 stars (pellets did not group well)
Daisy Precision Max__________4 stars (clover leaf hole.  Got these at Wal-Mart)
Daisy Match________________5 stars (this one deserves 7 stars because this ONE hole group was tighter and cleaner than the Crosman Copperhead pellets.  Got these from Sportsman's Guide 12 years ago, but not finding them anymore.  Good thing I still have 11-1/2 tins left with 250 count per tin)

Great review of the pellets!  My "normal" 350 does okay with the Predators, but it isn't my first choice for accuracy.

I'm amazed that the Daisy Pellets do so well.  My guns shoot them just fine, but I always think I'm missing something using cheaper pellets.

My 350 likes the CPHP and the RWS domed pellets a lot!

Well done / I use Crosman premier domed or HP and are very accurate.

Thanks for the info. I got a 350 magnum on its way, should be mailed out on monday. I have most of the same pellets you are shooting and will be running them through the gammet next weekend.

Ive shot the super domes and did great till I got past 15 yards then went to poopy, over 1 in groups.

I have 3 tins of daisy pellets but the did not penetrate even flush with the wood surface out of my gamos, wrote them off but might have to try them out of the RWS now.

All of my gamo pellets are still for the kids. yeah they look neat and can group good at 35 ft but after that you better be shooting pop cans anything smaller and good luck.

My RWS 350 Magnum shoots 14.3 grain pellets at approx. 800 fps, but that's because I installed a JM seal in it, which is a bit tighter than the stock seal.  Between the JM seal and the stock seal, I lose 13 fps with the JM, but I'm hoping the JM will settle in and give me better speeds after putting a few hundred rounds through it.  Oh, don't forget I installed a Vortek Pro Guide 2 kit in my rifle, so I'm not getting spring torque or twang when I shoot; it's just a nice solid "thump."

My Gamo CFX with a JM seal and Theoben gas ram shoots 14.3 grain pellets approximately 650 fps.  My other CFX with a JM seal and Nitro Piston gas ram actually shoots 30 (avg) fps slower.  From 10 ft, they'll both sink lead into a 2x4, but they won't split the 2x4 like my RWS 350 did (stacked 5 pellets into it).  I might have to order stock seals from Gamo for my CFXes and see what speeds I get with those.

Archer,

Looks good, but I think your going to have to try it again alittle bit further back than 10 feet if you want to begin to develope some hard data. My experience seems to be that most of the pellets look pretty good at that range but start displaying their true colors out past 15 yards.

Mean-Machine,

When I get the chance, I will take it back 35 yards in my friend's backyard.  This is just me shooting in my living room.  I would speculate that the 2 pellets that gave me a single clean hole with 5 shots are going to do well at long range.

Archer,

In your living room? You haveGOT to be single (Either that or you have tied up, bound and gagged your wife and the police are on the way). Iunderstand your speculation and I will be interested to know if speculation matches up with truth. Best of luck with that.

Yep, single.  Spend all my money on guns, ammo, bows, arrows, airguns, pellets and my truck.  LOL!!!
