Hand pumps - why such short hoses.
« on: March 05, 2010, 09:16:22 AM »
I just picked up a Benjamin hand pump for my PCP rifles and I find it strange that the hose is so short! About 12 inches total. In order to fill an airgun you must literally set the gun on the ground/floor. This seems ridiculous. No one is going to want to put there nice airguns down on the dirt/deck/concrete or whatever. I looked around a bit on line and it seems that a short hose length like that is common. Only reason I can come up with it that they want it to take as few strokes as possible and a couple more to fill a longer hose would just be too much. Is it just me or would you guys rather just pump two more times and be able to just fill the gun while its setting on the bench or table.

Thanks.

PS: Any reason that I shouldn't use a coupling and add a couple feet of hose? 3500 psi hose is pretty common at the paintball store.

Don't see any good reason you can't add a longer hose.  Will take a few more pumps to pressuize the hose, and you'll get more air bleed off when you finish pumping, but it shouldn't make any differnce.

usually my rifles are transported to the firing line in either a hard case or a soft case.  Will lay the case down on the ground.  When time comes to refill, will just put the gun either in the hard case or on the soft case, then fill it.

On my scuba tanks I use a short high pressure spaghetti hose.. Less air bleed off means more fills. Some guys have these huge hoses and long. When you bleed it off there is quite a bit of air loss from the hose. Just my personal thoughts and technique.
