When I was on High School Rifle team, I helped coach the Rifle Club. The gals picked up the shooting quicker and could keep up with the best of the guys in accuracy.

Back then girls weren't allowed to compete in sports with boys, but we'd have done way better if our Rifle team could have had some of the gals on it instead of a couple of the guys !!!!

All four of my daughters picked up learning to shoot well very quickly and are very good shots.

Never underestimate how well a gal can learn to shoot.

DJ: I'm retired from the Corps now.  Was a Radio Tech (2861), then Maintenance Officer...Warrant Officer, LDO.  I miss it, but am now too old and now non-deployable.  Enjoy it while you can.

God bless you Leather Neck!

Gents;  I feel lucky to have found her.  Took two attempts, but I think I got it right this time.

Funny thing is, she will never admit she likes it...it's not very ladylike if you know what I mean. However, last night in the basement with Dad's new rifle, you could see that sparkle in her eyes when she was showing off.  If I could show her other ladies that that shoot maybe it would help get her over it.  She worries that someone might think she's a Redneck....(there's lots worse things).   Even with that said, she still will grab one of the guns and knock off Chipmunks...then come find me so I can dispose of the carcass.

 She got 8 last summer.

Cool. My dad was a Motor transport officer when he pinned Warrent. He retired in 90 then when everything kicked off and the Corps was looking for people to come back in he was about to but then he saw my mom at the door with a rolling pin adn decided it was healthier to stay retired. lol

I enjoy the hell out of this. Been in or around the Corps every waking day of my life and plan on at least 25 yrs if I can keep my legs under me. Running sub 20 min 3 miles is ketching up with me. Its worth it though. I am 3rd generation Marine in my family all got to go to PI so its a proud tradition in my family and my 5 yr old tells me at least once a week he cant wait to work on helicopters with me. I think the Myers name will be 4 gens deep here in a few years.

It is this story true????    You should invite your spouse to shoot with you again.  :o

That will be very interesting for you to share with your wife this hobby.

Lucky you man.... My wife hates air rifles.

Back in the day I taught a couple buddies' wives to shoot. Has been my experience women are naturally better shots than men... feels like I'm betraying my own by admitting such a thing, yet it is true. Encourage her, one day it might be you saying, "Now honey do you really need another gun?"

Great stories.  A few of the women in the gun range I go to can usually outshoot quite a few guys.  I think it's because naturally they're more calm...so they've a steady hand.  Once they get over the fear of the "bang"....they're going to be excellent shots.

Yes, it's true.  Sorry Doc if I've taken over your thread...Didn't mean to.  Loved your story, since something very similar happened here, wanted to re-enforce your experience.

« Reply #25 on: March 07, 2010, 10:54:57 PM »

After viewing all of the responses,I let her try my new QB-78 (.177)

She loved it.  She then said: "thanks for the gun Honey".

Huh?? I guess that it is now hers?

Now she will be outside shooting it instead of taking care of me. hehe

I hope that everyone who responded to this post is happy now!!

(P.S. - I hope that she never reads the above replies)

Wow she took your gun! That's actually pretty cool that she likes to shoot that much. Mine used to about 12 years ago. Only way I could get her near the swamp now is if it had a starbucks in there. Be happy dude.

My wife's not really into it as much as I'd like her to be.  However when my daughter and I are out shooting for a while and momma comes ringing the dinner bell, she's usually coerced into taking a shot - and more often than not, beats us both!

now you need to get a QB78 for yourself :-)

I guess now you have to get another QB78 for yourself.  :-)
The good thing is both of you can now shoot together.  I think it is HARD to find common hobbies that both of you can enjoy together.
