What do you do after you shoot a pcp

Do you have to let the pressure out of the tank when your done shooting a pcp or can you leave it in there? Also how long does it take to pump the gun up to 3000 psi and after you shoot say 30 rounds how long does it take to pump it back up? I think my next gun will be a airforce talon. But have never shot or owned a pcp.

Djmyers, You leave the air in the gun, even if storing it for long periods to keep dirt out.

On the Talon SS, the tank is empty when you get it. Filling it with a hand pump will take a long time. After it full, it takes about ten minutes to refill it, maybe less. I never tried to break any World Class Records at filling the Talon.

However, time is not the question here. Heath is. If you’re a young man of average size a hand pump would work fine for you. For a old goat like me, it is a real work out. I got to the point that I hardly ever shot the Talon because of pumping air back into it.

I just bought my second PCP, but I also bought a air compressor to fill it with. I live out in the middle of no where, about 10 miles pass the boonies. Filling a scuba tank would cost to much in time and money for me.

However, that is how most guys charge their guns. It’s something you have to look into your self.

Now, look around all the airgun web sites. How many fellows you see filling there guns with hand pumps? Very few. Why? It’s easier using a tank. And for those that shoot in matches, having swore shaky arms and heart rates so fast that they can’t hold their guns on target is just not what they want.

Bottom line, a hand pump will get you by until you can get the cash together for a tank set up.

I would be interested in know what kind of compressor you bought and roughly how much. A decent compressor that will pump up to 3300 psi usually runs about $2000.00 plus. To fill a 80 cf tank only runs about $6.00 but is sometimes hard to find a place to get it filled..., especially in the woods...lol...

I figured you would already have a fill station in you shop.

I got the compressor from Pro Tec Air (http://www.protecair.com), model AN-M4/C3.5 CFM.

I paid $1,800.00 for it. The compressor part is a used old flame thrower (re-built) from the army with a new Hondo engine. It only puts out 3200 psi, which is not much of a problem for me. It only take about 5 minutes to top-off the scuba tank again.

I never shoot away from the house. So refilling the scuba tank is no problem. If  I did travel somewhere, I can get 3 or 4 fills off the 80 cu.ft. tank on the AA S400 and 2 or 3 on the Talon.

Having to get a tank filled at a dive shop or fire house is why I choose to get the compressor. I live in the woods, lol

I don`t know the capacity of the Talon`s airtube but for my PCPs...I shoot them until they`re in the 140 to 150BAR level and then top off to 300BAR (Just abit under 3000psi).  That`s about 55 to 65 pumps with my Hill pump....the last 25 pumps make me heat up (Moist in cool temps...sweat in summer time).  From 300BAR to 150 I get about 35 good powerful shots on high power....on low power I can get up to 70 shots with my FX Cyclone.  On low power I can get only 40 good shots out of my Air Arms S410SL because it`s a carbine (Smaller airtube).

Sounds like the same compressor that J Woodcock had for a couple years. They work great for under 3300 psi. but J has those 4500 psi Big Bore shooters....:) More Air Please...:)

Thats alot of pumping. I usually shoot about 100 rds or more when I go shooting. So I would be pumping 3 to 4 times at 55 pumps or lugging a scuba tank to the swamp where I shoot. The wife and neighbors would definatly think I was nuts, walking into a swamp with a pellet rifle and a scuba tank. lol  WIll just stick with springers till I can get my own place again. Thanks for the info.
