New Shooting Bench
« on: March 09, 2010, 10:04:04 AM »
Awhile back  Tommy (T-CUPS) posted pics and the building plans for a really sweet shooting bench that he had made himself. I mean it was really nice and I was really impressed with it and the job Tommy did in constructing it.   Ever since I saw his post I kept thinking about making one for myself and yesterday I finally got around to doing it.  I followed Tommy's plans and instructions  "to the letter" and it came out great.  If you're looking to build yourself a shooting bench take a few minutes and look up Tommy's original post and look at the plans and the pics.

I would like to thank Tommy for posting his pics and construction plans for the benefit of GTA members.  There's no way I could've constructed this without those plans and pics.  Thanks again Tommy  :)

Anyway, here's a couple of pics of my finished bench.  Matter of fact I used it for the first time today to sight in my new .22 disco and it was a pleasure to shoot from.  I followed Tommys directions and used all pressure treated lumber so I can just leave it outside so it's always ready when I want to shoot instead of having to haul my portable bench out of the basement and set it up every time I wanted to shoot.

Well Jeff,  when you are not shooting....you have a nice picnic table.    Or a good spot to drink some early morning coffee.

That was one of the things that I liked about it when Tommy first posted his pics and plans.  I'm assuming Tommy designed it and I have to say he did an excellent design job,,, the thing is as sturdy as a 2 ton boulder  :)

I built almost the identical one..... I found the prints online somewhere never the less very  nice work.... I enjoy mine and used rubber casters on front legs and a hitch to the seat to pull behind my mule (four wheeler) great bench....I was actually thinking the other day if there was a FTP site or some kind of upload for this site I have a ton of prints of shooting bench's and other cool stuff.

Great Job Jeff !

I like the idea of it being a dedicated shooting bench. I have been using a ten foot long picnic table that I made many years ago out of 2 x 6's, it's strong as a rock. The only problem I have is my wife thinks its hers !

I just might have to build one, half as wide as yours :) no south paws here !

Well done, Jeff!  Are you going to add the patio umbrella, too?  One good thing about the bench design is that it is ambidextrous, and allows a second person to  sit an watch/spot if you like to shoot with a friend (as long as they don't wiggle too much).

I'm a "righty" myself  :)  but the nice thing is that if a fellow airgunner comes over to shoot and they happen to be a "lefty" then they can use it too  !!  I can't say enough how impressed I am with Tommy's design...

Tommy,,,, ever since the bench has been finished I've been eyeing the umbrella from the patio set sitting on my deck.  I remember the pic you posted with your umbrella set up and it's a great idea,,, my only problem is trying to figure out how to get my wife to let me take her umbrella  :)    I doubt she'll let me take it as she loves her patio set so worst case scenario is that I'll have to take a drive to WallyWorld and by one for myself  :)
