Need Help
« on: March 10, 2010, 09:18:59 AM »
Just put new spring and seal in my whisper, everything went well. But went to cock it and it won't cock. If I hold the trigger back it will cock but have to push my trigger forward with my finger. What did I do wrong.

Sound's like the sear is not engaging the piston slot properly. When you reinstalled the trigger housing back into the action did you make sure that the tab on the front of the sear was sitting on top of the action and didn't drop inside when sliding the housing into place. Ed

Hmmm ok does the trigger feel like it's under any pressure when you pull it back and then push it forward?. I know it's something simple so I'm going through the process of elimination . If the trigger and spring's were not removed from the housing it's got to lie within the sear and piston engagement. The cocking shoe is functioning ok when you cock the shooter and sliding the piston back without any trouble, hear a click when the piston engages the trigger sear to lock up?. Ed

It's almost like a spring in the trigger system is not keeping tension on the sear to pop it up into the piston slot, wish it was here hehe. Ed

Trigger feels normal, cocking feels normal, just wil not lock. If I hold the trigger back them cock it I hear a click and everything is fine. I know it is something simple, but I don't have a clue. I took spring back out and reinstalled trigger still same thing. It's one of Charlies triggers could it be out of adjustment.

The only spring I saw was the one that hooked onto the slide, I think I hooked it up right.

Bob's trigger's come adjusted and ready to drop in and I'm guessing that you had the trigger in there before the new spring and piston seal and it was functioning fine. Ed

Yes that spring should be hooked to the side of the housing and to the guide bar, it's part of the guide system for the cocking arm. that spring shouldn't have to be removed though but sometimes the spring that hook's into the trigger housing can interfere with the sear etc. if not hooked in there right. When I took the gun apart it was only hooked on the trigger housing and not the slide. Maybe I should try and unhook the spring.

Hmmm I'm rummaging through my trigger work's here. If you had the stock trigger on hand you could pull the GRT and stick the stock one in to see if there's any difference. I would also pull the trigger just to make sure that all look's good in there then install it making sure that the sear that ride's in the groove at the top of the GRT is riding in there properly and not off to one side or the other. It should be hooked to both though or it will just move back and forth freely but it's worth a try. Ed

Shadow,
I will send some pics. Taking the spring off did not help.
