Newbie question for all home tunning.....

I am all new to the air rifle tunning so......I would like to know how does everyone hone the compression tube?

Thank you very much for Bob's advice on my previous thread about the plastic trigger and it is nice that the Flex-hone that I've ordered has not arrived yet so I'll be ultra careful.

I have absolutely no experience of honing a cylinder so I just planned to do it with Flexhone as it advertised as self-centering and can be clamped on a power drill to use.....I planned to use some light machine oil and go with slow speed. I am going to use the 320 grit aluminium oxide hone (which is not arrived yet)

How did everyone get the job done? I know it is best to send the gun to Gene to have a tune up......and I really want to go that way but I am in a geographic location that it is just not possible.

Any other good tools can get the job done fast and good and safe?

Hey, welcome Joe from Sunny Spain! I've just finished a trigger mod on my Discovery and am just about to test it out! Just remember to make sure everything is clean and free of any unwanted muck! The main thing is to take your time and get to understand the workings of your gun! As for honing the chamber, I'll let the pros give the advice on that! Anyway, nice to have you with us! :p

Be very careful if you do decide to use a cylinder hone not to go down past the rotary breech opening due to the size variance in o-rings available you don't want to remove even the slightest bit of metal from that area causing a looser fit and leaky breech but as far as does everyone use one I don't know but I did and my gun was fairly new when I did it's first tune will say the compression tube of mine was really smooth when I started and probably only should have used 320 paper on a dowel to rough it up a little.

I think Charlie or Gene just posted recently NOT to use a hone. Do a search here on flex hones.

I think he was referring to the flex hones I think the three stone brake cylinder hone is the correct way and if I am not mistaking is the flex hone the device with all the round balls on it used to finish up after normal honing on say engine piston cylinders and such.

You should use a brake cylinder hone and not use a Flex-Hone. Using a Flex-Hone unless you are very sure of what you are doing and have experience using them, will almost guarantee damage to the cylinder wall and a lot of work to repair.
