Update with photos
« on: March 13, 2010, 11:29:07 AM »
I mentioned earlier today that I got a chance to shoot a few birds with some guns that didn’t have any successful hunts behind them. While I’m not sure you can call it hunting when you just peek out the window so see what’s going on in the yard. But at long last the B28 had its day to day. I shot this big Eurasian Collard Dove with the Asian Beast today, and it’s in great shape, I think I will trade a few dead Starlings to the taxidermist and have him mount this one for me. Those are some pretty big birds and can take quite a shot but this one just rolled over after being hit with CPHP from only 20 yards.

The Power Line 922 is another recent acquisition, and today it proved its worth for taking care of winged insurgents that make daily raids on the suet feeders. All in all it was a pretty decent day. I only used the B28 on the one shot and the Daisy went 4 out of 5 with one fly off and one clean miss. One of the Starlings in the photo managed to hop off after hitting the ground, so I loaded up the Crosman 1377 pistol to go out and finish him off. If I’m lucky I may get one or two more shots before the birds settle in for the evening, but I think it’s been a fairly productive day to this point.

Good shootin' Dave,

Send some of those Collared doves this way.....I cleared em all out of here. I had to keep shooting them so the dog could eat. They were stealing all of his food

Those collared Doves are same mighty good eating. Bigger than a White-winged Dove. I see them all over the place, but not in my yard.  :0

Nice shooting fur seeker or is that feather seeker.

Nice shooting Dave!  The collared dove would definitely make a nice mount.

I got my 1st Grackle of the year yesterday with the Condor .25.  30yds shot, but it was raining with 50mph winds so I didn't go out to get it.  It became fox or skunk dinner last night because it was gone this morning.

Nice pics!

Great pics and great shooting.  Sure wish I had those doves here to shoot at.  All I have is mourning doves and in NY they are considered a "song bird" so they are protected.

Mourning doves are not a game bird in NY? They are a game bird in Utah with the season during the fall migration. (Sep.) They are a very tasty bird, but you'll need a pile of them to make a meal.

I have not attempted to eat a Collared dove yet. Let's just say they seem to be a bit of a "trashy" bird. They seem to have a very similar diet though.

Mourning doves are sanely back in game-bird status here in Ky and Oh. Thank goodness. It was a perpetual battle.

The are good eating, too. The "good" news (not ecologically, of course) is that the invasive doves will be in your state sooner or later. They spotted one just South of me last year and they were almost exclusively in Fla not that many years ago.

Great shooting with your B28 on that Dove and your Power Line 922 whacked those Starlings good.  But your Crosman 1377 told me it felt ignored because it wasn't in any of the photos!!!!
