3 for 3 so far
« on: March 15, 2010, 05:28:39 AM »
An unexpected day off is rewarding me with a few more Starlings. I knew they would be use to feeding undisturbed this morning so I was able to score on a few that weren’t expecting a thing. The little Daisy 880 was up in the rotation today and with the newly acquired Crosman Destroyers this thing is super effective at the close in stuff. I was reading on another forum that some guys assign points to Starlings harvested, something like 3 points for females, 2 points for juveniles and 1 point for males. The reason was taking out the females will result in the loss of all her potential hatchlings and because the *_*_*_*_*_* of the juveniles in unknown they are worth 1 point more than the males. So I guess if I was the score keeping type I’d be going for the females. But I have to admit those big aggressive glossy black males are pellet magnets when they’re holding still.

The doves are also back, but because I’m using the ultra light stuff I haven’t attempted a shot. Today there is a really light almost white dove in with the group. I will attempt to take some pictures if I get the chance.

I'm always surprised how accurate this little shooter is. I usually shoot some of the higher end guns in my collection, but like I said these are just great for close quarters work. The 880 seems to be a little more accurate then my 922 in .22 caliber. I can usually get consistant hits out to 25 yards with either gun and could probably squeeze a little more range out of them with some more powerful glass on them, 4x just doesn't seem to be enough some times.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I do enjoy all types of air rifles, everything from my RWS 350 Feuerkraft Pro Compact to the cheap little Daisy’s and everything in between. Something tells me I’m not the only one that shares this sentiment, but shooting these things just make me feel like a kid again. And after 5 days a week of meetings on budget overruns, slipping delivery schedules, month end profit and loss numbers, coming home and just grabbing a gun and shooting a few pellets at whatever is around just takes some of that stress away.

Very good....3 yellow beaks with your Daisy 880.  She put the hurting on those birds.
