Bought new non-cocking socom extreme
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:18:00 AM »
Hello all, just started gettin back into the airgun hobby. Bought a new gamo socom extreme. Waited a couple weeks to get it, as I live in Newfoundland Canada. Just got the gun today, and cleaned the barrel out. Tryed to take the first shoot and to my disapointment it won't cock. Got it to cock twice after repeated times trying. It will only cock once in a while. And it's not the easiest to cock either. Have to wait til tommorow to call shop back. It doesn't seem to cock at all now. Just tryed again...no go! They'll probably have me ship it back for an adjustment. Should be replaced I think...Would adjusting the trigger adjustment screw help any? Or is it got a problem for sure...It should cock with the adjustment screw in any position..shouldn't it?
Actually just got it to cock two more times...but I have to really "bang it" down at the end of the cocking cycle. Not sure if this is normal. At the start I was cocking to the end and bouncing it and it wouldn't cock. The last two times I had to hit bottom pretty hard for it to catch. Is this normal?

Unhappy shooter

Randy, welcome to GTA International Forums. Glad you joined us addicts.

Yes, it's possible the trigger adjust is cranked too far, removing all the travel and not allowing the sear to catch. I would first try adjusting it. Also, if you put a finger behind the trigger and push it forward while you cock the gun, will the trigger go forward and allow the gun to cock? If so, you may have a spring out of place or a defective trigger group.

Try these and let us know. But if neither of these suggestions have any effect, I'd just get an RMA to ship the gun back for replacement/repair.

Again, welcome and Happy Shooting!!!!

sounds like the sear is not engaging and if it's new i would just send it back and yes my cfx would not cock with the triger adjustment screwed all the way in. welcome to the forum this is very addictive.

Welcome to the GTA family Randy now as for it not cocking right when new send it back. I tune the Extremes and that's a lot of spring in there to have the trigger system be faulty. They are a beast to cock but that's part of the Mag power they provide. The trigger system is what it is but there is a drop in replacement which is a true two stage trigger, GRT-III trigger. There may also be a problem where the sear lock's into the piston, bur in the port hole of the piston. I would hate to see a magnum shooter with a faulty trigger system go off by accident. Ed

Seems like it works fine now...? After cocking it the fifth time, it cocks everytime now. And I don't have to cock it hard or "bounce it". It works now like I believe it should. I didn't adjust anything. Seems like it worked itself in. Maybe where the "sear" grabs the piston. Not knowledgable on the inter-workings at all myself. Only read threw a few "tuning" docs, and checked out a few diagrams. Do you guys think I should just keep it now that it works fine? I could check out the trigger adjustment...it's in the same spot as from the factory. It appears to be in all the way..(no threads exposed) ummm??

The sear on them can have some rough edges on them since they are stamped out and it sound's like you got it to settle into the piston. :) Keep cocking and shooting it and it should seat in better as time go's by. Ed
