TF-89 Trigger problem
« on: March 17, 2010, 01:33:36 PM »

Hello all. I need some help.

I have a used TF-89 that isn't functioning properly in the trigger movement.

It doesn't seem to matter how I adjust the triggers stages or pull, the first stage is completely loose and there is no tension on it. The second stage exists and works but the first stage is not there. The trigger just moves forward and backward with no tension till you get to the second stage.

I must admit that I am currently stumped as to what could be the problem here. As far as I know, all the parts are in the right places but I'm skeptical of that now that I have no resistance on the first stage.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem or possible a fix on this?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I already have that printed out.

I have no idea what the "factory" settings were so I cannot exactly start where he suggests.

Thanks anyway.

If the trigger pull is light, try adjusting the the big screw clockwise to put some tension and work from there. The pull wt. spring might be crushed, it's a big spring inside a guide spring to keep it in place..PITA if you don't get it back in right. I replaced mine with a lighter spring and works smoothly. I did mine with small adjustment at a time to get it right and make sure you hold on to the barrel good when cocking it after trigger adjustments...sometimes the sear will barely hold the piston.

The other thing is (and I know you don't want to hear this) but you can buy another trigger group from Compasseco.

Good point atchman.  I'll keep that in mind.

Since I have done no damage to this point though, I'm not giving up on this trigger assembly just yet.

I fixed it.........mostly.

For reasons I cannot explain it is essentially a three stage trigger now.  The first stage is "slack" movement in the trigger followed by a proper, real first stage and second stage.  For me, it works.

I am wondering about springs n' such but for now It'll hunt.

Thanks to all of you for your help and suggestions.
